what oil should i use?
so ive had my car for a couple of months and its time for an oil change. it has about 137k miles on the engine. The problem is that i dont know if the owner before me used regular oil or synthetic oil. I want to use synthetic because it was great on my 296k mile accord, but I heard there might be problems switching to a synthetic oil at a certain mileage.
and i cant contact the guy that had the car before me cuz i lost his phone number.
This is a 1993 prelude with an h22a1.

with 137k on the engine, i wouldn't take a chance running a synthetic on such a high mileage motor. maybe you can send the oil out to blackstone and have them analyze the oil.
otherwise, i'd stick to dino.

If you use synthetic, the worst thing that can happen is you leak or burn and have to do another oil change sooner than you planned. It'll cost you a little more and you'll have learned something about your engine.
And maybe it'll work beautifully and you won't change your oil again for 7,000 miles.

yeah thanks for the advice guys. i ended up going with a cheap synthetic (quaker state Q or some ****) it was on sale for $2 a quart. if it burns a lot then i will switch to regular. if it works great, ill use mobil 1 next time.
all of the hondas i've owned have had about the same mileage as yours when i bought them. i have always run mine on mobile 1 and all have gone well into the 200k mile range and still ran great when they were sold.
