Back Half the car with aluminum sheet metel i.e where the spare tire would go, cut and replace with flat sheet metel.
Get a street rod gas tank, there plastic material about 40lbs lighter!!
Get rid of front and rear bumper supports. You will have to make some new mounts for the bumpers but it takes alot off.

What kind of wheels are you running, if you dont have them yet get lighter rims.
As mentioned above- carbon fiber hood
(Fiber Images seems to be lighter then ViS, I bought a CF hood from Importfan.com and it was a fiberglass hood skinned in CF that was only about .025" thick!
And when bodyshop whet to fit it it was another nightmare. Hood was all warped to hell, I called importfan.com up and they said it must be how i stored it! Such BS.)
Ended up getting a ViS, Fitment was sweet as well as the weave.
Plus I bought a Mugen replica kit from them and it was off by like 3 or 4 inches as well...and Importfan.com gave me same excuse of storing it wrong..Just a heads up!
If you take out the sound deadening (sp?) material it will save some weight as well.
Use some dry ice to freeze it then chip it away.
Dont know if you have it, take out the A/C and power steering.
Can also get like a DC Sports header...When i took out the stock exaust manifold from my girls 93 Teggy GS, that bitch is pretty damn heavy compared to the DC Sports one.
Also you can replace the hatch glass with a race window.
And last if you have access to a CNC start pulling stuff off that can be made out of aluminum
Once i get some free time i'm gonna see what i can think up of and play around with my HAAS VF4 CNC Milling Center
with CAD/CAM done with TekSoft ProCamII

got the hood already,
i have rota grids. they are pretty light.
a/c and p/s are gone also.
nothing in the rear.
i was actually thinking about a fuel cell. then taking out the gas tank and putting the nitrous bottle under there. perfect fit.

I've got my 88 HF somewhere in the 1600 lbs area now. If you don't need a heater, pull all that stuff, wiper assembly, any brackets that aren't really needed (like the one on the back of the intake manifold) Remove any wires that you don't need anymore... it all just depends on how far you wanna go and if you're willing to live without stuff (like a radio and heater).
I use an 11lb sealed motorcycle battery on my daily driver, so I know it will work for anything. There should be nothing in your interior except the steering column, pedals, some kind of gauges, and a driver's seat. Remove the whole dash and heater system. In the engine bay you can remove the windshield squirter system, the intake manifold bracket. Fiberglass doors. Lexan windows. If it's a drag car then you don't need swaybars or rear discs. One piece front end so you can remove the headlights, latch, and hinges. That's all I can think of right now that isn't blatantly obvious.
Pull all ac and heater core from behind dash, wiper motor and resevoir, replace gas tank with fuel cell, cut spare tire well out and replace with aluminumsheet metel, git rid off bumper supports, door supports, pass mirror!!
And by exactly I was talking about the N2o bottle where gas tank would be!!
