Default Zanardi wins at Mugello

Alex Z took the win with the 320i at Mugello in the Italian Touring Car Championship this Sunday.

I can't find any official site or anything, but its pretty freaking awesome.

The Cumberland region has a guy driving a RHD Lotus Europa and he only has one hand. He still sets FTD at most of the events.

The only reason Zanardi can win is because he's lighter than all of the drivers with legs. It's a know fact that modern prostheses are less dense than muscle and bone. He has an unfair advantage.

How much extra does Zanardi's throttle control system add to the car? I heard it weighs more than two legs.

Wow. This is ridiculous. I like and admire Alex Zanardi way too much to not say anything. Those who think that there is some kind of funny parallel here between him racing cars without two legs and some other healthy 100 lb 5 foot tall driver are a little deranged to say the least when it comes to this and have no idea what being handicapped means. Don't ruin this thread about Zanardi's success with your off-topic need to defend IRL's (stupid IMHO) weight rule.

Relax, guys.

Giles and others can vouch for my lib'ral sentiments - I was a freakin' teacher for cripes' sake - but i'd hope you can take my word that my POINT was that EVERYONE deserves a chance to be judged on the merit of their accomplishments - not on what makes them "special."

Patrick is a racer before she's a woman, when the topic is racing. Zanardi is a racer before he is handicapped, and I would be astounded if he wanted anything other than to compete head-to-head with other RACERS.

How would you like someone to say about you, "He's fast for a homosexual." Or, "Wow - it's great that a short, fat guy like that can be competitive." Or, "It's sure cool that even a diabetic can race!" Or, "He's the highest placed Jew in his class." Or insert your own "qualifying condition" here...

Patrick gets singled out because she's female, and Zanardi because he's overcome the physical impact of a life-threatening racing accident. The fact that you think your particular brand of singling-out is positive, does NOT negate the possibility that you are still not giving the PERSON behind the specialness the credit that he or she deserves.

How about actually treating everybody equally? That's what I was trying to do by illustrating that arguing weight as a proxy position to biases that might be grounded in Patrick's sex looks really stupid when applied to Zanardi.

I'm sorry if anyone was offended but even more sorry if the point - now explained - still escapes you.

I say that about RJ all the time

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Or, "Wow - it's great that a short, fat guy like that can be competitive." </TD></TR></TABLE>

I say that about RJ too, except the competitive part.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Or, "It's sure cool that even a diabetic can race!" </TD></TR></TABLE>

Hmmm, how's your blood sugar RJ?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Or, "He's the highest placed Jew in his class." </TD></TR></TABLE>

That's probably me actually. Jews and racing don't always go together I suppose.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Or insert your own "qualifying condition" here...</TD></TR></TABLE>

He's the fastest guy who's hung like a race horse? Yeah, that will work.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Patrick gets singled out because she's female, </TD></TR></TABLE>

She gets singled out because she has an advantage. If you can explain to me how Zanardi's accident is an advantage, I would love to hear it. If weight wasn't an advantage, why have minimum weights? Why does just about every other major race series set minimum weight WITH the driver in the car? IT MATTERS, and the fact that we can't address that issue because she is a girl is silly. Scott made a good point about her strength, but that doesn't change the fact that lighter is faster - period.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">How about actually treating everybody equally? </TD></TR></TABLE>

I am. Put a guy in that car at the same weight, and I'll say the same thing. I think she is extremely talented, but this culture that we can't talk about her weight is absurd.

Comparing her to Zanardi was obviously a joke, as Zanardi not only proved himself with equal competition, but has done what can only be defined as one of the bravest and most courageous things I've ever seen. And he did it without anything other than skill.

Groan... not another one of these bitchfests.

She is a rookie... the rookie to win their first race the fastest was Sam Hornish Jr on race #9 and its race #9 next week or whenever the race is.

Sean who believes this mania is no different than the whole NASCAR/Earnhardt mania when they actually stopped a broadcast to report that Jr was in a wreck. Come on did they stop a broadcast to report MS was in a wreck last year. No... gah... I give up.
