Default Recharging 94 prelude ac compressor.....beat the heat.

Hey everyone whats up? I noticed that Preludes are expensive to get the a/c compressor recharged. But its cheaper if you do it yourself since you can buy the coolant at any auto store including your freindly neighborhood walmart. I was wondering how would i be able to do it myself . I have seen my freind do it many of times before and he taught me how I just forgot how since it was like four years ago and I only did it once to my Accord. How can I recharge the compressor myself?

you don't put coolant into your compressor, its refrigerant, and i would get a get set of ac manifold gauges just so you would know exactly how much you put in

You can't recharged the older R12 AC systems yourself. You can only recharge the newer AC systems.

I'm in the same boat as you. You have to take it to a shop to have recharged. It is expensive too, from what I heard.

It's actually not too hard to do yourself. Just replace all the o-rings to the system (you do not need any special tools, just a 10mm and 12mm socket and the location of all the o-rings). You can get the o-rings from any honda dealership or autoparts store.
After you replace all the rings, get a vac pump and suck out all the moisture from the lines. I generally let it run for about 45mins to an hour. After about 45 mins, kill the pump and leave the manifold gauge intact. Come back about 15mins later and see if your vacumm is still the same, if it is that means you do not have a leak, or atleast not a major one.
Now you're ready to charge the system. Depending if your compressor has any oil left in it, I would reccommend to charge 2-3 oz of oil and 2 cans of refrigerant (24 oz). I don't have the specs on how much your R-134 sys holds but on my R12 retro on a 92 si, it's 28oz.
