1999 Civic EX rebuild manual transmission?
Hello!
I have a 1999 civic vtec D16Y8 w/ manual transmission. 91000 miles on it.
I notices when I bought the car 2 years ago it would click as I shift from 1st to 2nd.
It slowly developed into a grind as I shift from 1st to 2nd. If I hold the clutch coming out of 1st for about 2 seconds and go into 2nd gear slowly it shifts OK with no grind. I dont have any problems with any other gear.
I just replaced the timing belt and water pump and 3 drive belts yesterday, & it seems a bit worse.
I realize that these changes have nothing to do with the transmission but now its got me thinking...
I could replace the transmission with one from a junk yard, but then I might be buying someone elses problems...
Im guessing that its the syncros...
Would you rebuild or get a different one?
I can do stuff like timing belt, water pump, valves, tune up but to tear into a transmission
is something Ive never done.
My brother works for Honda and he asked the race team how hard it is.
They said its pretty easy. just open the case, snap off the snap ring and slide the gear and syncro off.
My guess is its not going to be that easy...
Just looking for input...
Thanks...

find a honda specialist in your area and have them look at it. its always best to get two or more professional opinions before doing any work.
