they look like crap. I've heard you can get ones that don't drill through the top of your hood. They're a pain in the *** to unlock though, which is a good thing if you really care about your car.
You could also just invest in a decent alarm system with a hood pin switch, and route the wires in with the stock wiring harnesses, so they won't know what to cut. Your starter will be disabled, and most likely the theif will dip unless he REALLY wants your car. And if you love your car enough you should be running outside with a shotgun everytime you hear an alarm like I do

i dont trust those hood locks. they can be kind of shady if they get loose from opening and closing them a lot. i just put regular pins and kept the latch and a safeguard and put a hood switch from my alarm with my 2 way so ill know if its open
2-way
Yeah, my friend Albert had those hoodlocks on his 68 Camaro. They worked ok I guess. One rusted through so we had to reach up from under the car and cut one of the bolts... lucliky old american cars have a lot of room to reach up through. You won't be so lucky with compact imports...
I suggest you just get an alarm. And remember, if someone really wants your stuff they'll take it. It's just your job to make it more annoying for them to do it (i.e. attract attention if they try something)
