Ok I'm currently building up an LS/VTEC to drop in my EJ. Just had a few quick questions:
1. I currently have a P30 ECU that was running my JDM B16A. Currently have Apex'i VAFC II but will be burning a ROM and running Chrome (Uberdata style ECU editing). So will I run into any problems running this same ECU (chipped obviously) on my LS/VTEC.
2. Not too important right now but there is a sensor on the back of the LS block that has 2 prongs (just like the oil pressure sending unit has 1 but these 2 are slightly beefier). What is this sensor?
3. I have also heard that some bottom end components from a GSR are recommended to aid in lubricating the crank and rods. Anyone else hear this? If so what parts were you told to bring in from a GSR?
Any other important info you may have regarding the little yet important parts of building an LS/VTEC let me know... Any help is always appreciated.
Happy 4th all!

1. P30 should be fine, does look for knock sensor however. Not sure about chipping P30's..
2. thats your fan switch.. might be good to have that hooked up correctly......
3. no clue

1. Do not run a vafc as it will cause your ecu to only see low cam maps.
2. Dont worry about it.
3. Just use arp rod bolts/gsr or itr water/fuel pumps that is all.

Are you 100% sure about number 2? On my B16 the fan switch is on the thermostat housing but I didn't scope this area too much on the B18A1. I need to find a DA factory service manual somewhere in PDF format. I had it a while back but lost it since then. **** putting it on CD.
Yeah I'm putting the KS where one of the alternator bracket bolts goes. Should be fine there..

Yeah the VAFC is going bye bye.. Selling it for $10 less than I payed for it almost 2 years ago, so I got the good use out of it. I knew it needed to go when I saw the DynoJet numbers. I mean it's a nice unit but a burn of a chip will work so much nicer having control of ingition plus a bunch of other **** the VAFC can't do..
Yeah arp bolts are already ordered.. I have a B16 water pump, I'm pretty sure its the same part number as the GSR.. I would have to check, anyone know off the top of their head? I will without question replace the oil pump with the ITR or GSR.. If anyone has any additional suggestions, horror stories etc lets hear em... Thanks for the input guys..

deffinitly run the type-R oil pump, for your conversion get a gonden eagle ls/vtec conversion kit, i just finished my swap today and" im lovin it"

I was gonna get the Golden Eagle kit but I was able to put my own **** together for about $50 less with a cometic head gasket. I do like the oil filter style oil feed. That is pretty pimp but I'm just using SS fittings and relocating the oil pressure switch/sending unit to the firewall.. I think c-speed racing has a writeup that shows this method. But i am now realizing that pressing that SS oil line in to those fittings may be worth the extra $50 for pre-made. I guess you live you learn, next LS/VTEC I build will most likely use the GE kit. Have you heard anything about replacing the bottom end components of the LS motor with GSR for larger oil journals?

1. You should have no problem reusing the P30 and chipping it. Although you could always sell the P30 for some profit and socket a cheaper P06 or similar ECU.
2. Coolant temp switch - must be hooked up unless you have installed a different water pipe/thermostat housing on the block that has the sensor. In which case you could use either sensor.
3. That would be the factory oil squirters from the DOHC VTEC blocks. It's not really possible to install them very easily, although I have seen it done. You will be fine without them, just use a VTEC oil pump as mentioned.

This is a little off the subject matter, but should I have the head milled to increase the compression? If so how much?

The R oil pump is not going to help all that much at all.
The LS already has a GSR oil pump on it....I doubt you need more than that.

IllNo. Part Number Description
002 15100-P72-A01 PUMP ASSY., OIL
USDM ITR and GSR oil pump, same exact part number.. The 2000 LS teg is also the same.. Hmmm
So the previous generation looks like this and again the GSR and LS oil pumps are the same part number. Doesn't look like the newer gen oil pump would bolt to the older engine.

002 15100-PR3-024 PUMP ASSY., OIL (92' Integra GSR)
Check out http://www.acuraoemparts.com for this **** and to buy parts. They hook you up with a decent discount off list..

So it looks like replacing the oil pump needs to be done with one from the same gen engine and it would only be exact replacement.. Can anyone confirm that these WILL NOT swap between generations?

I believe 92 or 93, I would have to check next time I see the block..
