Default Car & Driver/Precision Racing events

Has anyone looked at the Car and Driver Precision Racing event across the country? http://www.precisionracing.org/

You pay $100 to enter a drag race, autocross and skidpad test; a full weekend event. The rules are points based, definitely not SCCA. There are a few prize dollars... nothing extremely big. It doesn't seem quite as generous as the Mazda Rev it Up thing (looking at both from an average driver's point of view).

It looks interesting. What's your take?

For the second straight year, they've "postponed" the remainder of their season until next year. Doesn't look like anyone really cares for it.

If it wasn't the same weekend as the last ever Runoffs at Mid-Ohio, I would've considered signing up for the Cleveland round since it so damn close (10 miles away, right next to where I work...even local auto-xes are 25+ miles away from me) to where I live, but I don't know if I could justify $100 for an event where 2/3rd of the activities don't hold my interest.

this something designed to get a broader audience to a sanctioned event where actual prizes are being awarded, I would think everyone on this board would be psyced about it. Unless there afraid this is going to lead to increased intrest and more competitors in there class

Personally, the reason I wouldn't do it is because it doesn't seem to be biased enough towards driving. Some guy who hasn't a clue how to drive could show up in his 911 and get his *** kicked in the autocross, but still beat you because his car has more HP for the acceleration challenge, and in the grip challenge because of the $$$ poured into the car. Boring.

You wouldn't be driving against the guy with a 911 unless your car was as "capable" as his. So the idea of classification is absolutely necessary.

Good point. All in all, the turnout is really low (less than a dozen people is cities like Chicago or Detroit... come on!) The fact that cash prizes are offered is nice.
