Default Temperature Gauge is Acting funny..

My 93 prelude h22a vtec Temperature Gauge is acting funny recently. I have check oil mark, anitfreez, and etc but still it's still not correct. Temperature keeps rising past the normal setting during each stops at the lights, then drops back down when the car runs. Anyone experience this before please help? Thanks for your corporations.

Not quite sure what you were trying to say. But, if the car heats up at stops, it's probably not your guage. It's your engine heating up. make sure the radiator isnt clogged, your thermostat frozen closed, and also make sure the fans are turning on.

after u drive, see if the radiator hoses are both hot. it should be really hot to the touch. if one of them is warm or cool, then it is a thermostat problem. did u try bleeding ur coolant system?

I think my thermostat might be stuck open. Would this still apply, as the hose goin back to the engine would be warm or cool?

The fan does turn on.....I'm just not sure about the radiator clogging. It could be that but I'll try to flush throughly. Thanks you guys.

if the thermostat is stuck open, the car runs too cool. you'll see the temps go down if you run the heat, the guage will drop, it takes forever for it to get to operating temp, etc etc. it's not good for the car. The ECU will go back and forth from warm up mode, running rich and lean depending on how cool the engine gets. stuck open is driveable. stuck closed and the engine overheats.

get car to temperature, open hood, open thottle to about 2k, the fan should kick on in a few seconds, but you may just want to do a coolant system flush....sounds like a clogged, neglected system. coolant really should be changed every few years for maximum water pump and radiator life

Well, I figure that it must be the thermostat. I did check and change oil, plus the anitfreez. I don't know why the thermostat would do this to me after buying the motor straight from japan. Shouldn't 30k to 40k motor still be fine with its engine component?? Thanks everyone.

not necessarily. those engines sit in junkyards for up to a year or so depending on the year of the car, it could be up to 10 years! then it sits on a dock then on a boat for about 2 months. I would change everything on a jdm motor as soon as I got it. oil, timing belt, WP, thermostat, spark plugs, etc etc.
