I want to strip teh rear of my CRX and...
I want to strip my rear interior out and clean all the surface rust out of the back, then spray some rhino lining in it to protect it. BUT, I was told this stuff is heavy as sin. Is tehre an alternative to rhino lining that does the same job equally if not better and weight less? I just want a small layer of the stuff. Not as thick as a truck bed mind you.
TIA

heavy.....as in less then like 30lbs. I took all that **** out...to wash it and clan it....and it was practically nothing. you ARE talking about all the plastic right. It's light. don't worry about it.
Do you already have rust? If so, rhinolining over isn't going to protect you, you have to COMPLETELY remove all the rust... and then just paint it.
what I have is barely surface rust, but thast not my point.
Would the rhino lining make the car heavier than it would be with full rear interior? or would it still be lighter?
I want to have everythign behind the seats out, and the rhino lining in there. Would this be heavier than a full interior rex?

just weigh the amount of lining you are going to use, how mugh would it take 1/2 -1 gallon? it shouldnt weigh that much

Yeah, or just get all the rust out, and paint it.

Clean up the rust as best you can, then get a can of Zero-rust and spray a few coats in there. That's suppose to stop any rust you might have missed and it will prevent any other rust from forming. You can probably find a color that will come close to matching. If you're not happy with the color than just find a color and spray over the zero-rust.
guys. THIS isnt about rust prevention.
The reason for the rhino lining is: its durable and washable if dirty. Which means I can haul anything in the rear of my CRX without worrying about getting everythign dirty and having to scrub to get **** out. plus I think it would look kinda cool
there has to be somebody who has done somethign similar to this.

hell yea! got any pics of it? I'm gonna do mine in black. I might even get the sides and back also. to keep them from getting dirty and scratched when I put stuff back there.
Sorry no pic
i had mine done from the seats back the side are tricky we just did the body braces but you have a big *** wand that about the size of the water hose wand at the car wash to work with . If you do in the can it would be just as good. good luck
we where going to do the floor pan but the car was stolen out of my driveway about 5-6 months later

CRX rear interior is very light, probably going to have the same weight with paint and if you leave the interior in the rear you will have less noise.
POR-15 is good stuff

No offense, but yes it is. You want to take every precaution to make sure you didn't miss any spot of rust before you throw down rhino liner. You won't have to worry about protecting it when its falling out.
IMO, it's not worth getting the rhino liner to protect that little area. If you're going to put something in your hatch area then just throw down a blanket.
OR, I guess you could just get a can of undercarriage protector (forget what it's really called.)

great quoting job
regardless, this is more about "how much does a layer of it weigh?" Obviously I'm concerned about the rust, but the rust IS NOT the main point of the thread. I can handle that without your help and repeating.
I do have a can of that underbody spray paint, but I dont think it would be durable enough to protect the metal from, say, a block or some other heavy metal object with sharp edges.

Towel and blanket
You'll have to excuse my bitterness with the rust issue. I've been doing body work on my rex for a good month now removing rust.....believe me when i say that you don't EVER want to have to go through with it.
