Default Hesitation + Miss = igniter?

hey, i noticed that my car has a slight hesitation while accelerating, if u give it loots of gas while its hesitating it'll chug. It also has a sloght miss barely noticable. i already changed plugs, wires, the cap , and the rotor isnt loose. I did a search and found out that an igniter can cause both of these problems and that it can also cause your car to have trouble starting sometimes. This has happened to me a couple of times wont start leave it for a few mins and it'll fire up just fine. Id just like to be sure that the igniter is the problem. Where exatly is the igniter and what does it look like? thanks

Also this is kind of a stupid question but last night was kinda cold and i noticed that my engine didnt even warm up on my way home. Im positive the thermostat is stuck open. Correct me if im wrong or if it could be something else.

There could be a few things at fault with the hesitation. Assuming you used OEM Honda ignition components, we can then mark that off the list(autozone/napa junk doesnt belong on a Honda). The first place I would look is the coil and ignitor. Both are located inside the dist under the cap and are very simple to replace. There are testing methods but both can test ok yet still be the cause. IMHO I would replace both since when one fails the other usually isnt far behind. Thankfully the 88-91 Civ's only have a handful of driveability issues. The 3 main probs are, main relay(car will start and then die quickly usually on a warm day or after a short drive), coil and ignitor(a failing ignitor will sometimes make the tach bounce along with a simultaneous miss/hesitation). The coil is self explanatory, no start or possibly a misfire etc. pm me if you have any questions. Ive been there done that with the ol EF's for a long time. Anyway hth.
