Default Radiator cooling fan

My daughter's 2000 Civic (1.6 litre 4 cyl engine) came very close to overheating a few days ago. The radiator cooling fan appears to not be working. Can anyone tell me where the fan switch/sensor is located? Also, can I jumper a 12 volt power source straight to the fan to check that it's working without damaging anything? I don't have a manual for the car yet, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

i had to get a new radiator due to a deer accident...
after the guy at the yard installed it for me.... he did a direct jump from the battery to make sure the fan was spinning... and it worked

so ya u can jump directly from the battery itself and make sure its working

the fan switch (thermoswitch) is located in the thermostat housing. Unplug the thermoswitch, with the car off, and jump (put a piece of wire from one prong of the plug to the other, to complete the circuit) the plug on the harness for the thermoswitch. Then turn the car on, the fan should turn on, if not take some wire and put it from the positive terminal on the battery to the rad fan plug, and do the same with some wire for the negative. If nothing still, then you know the rad fan is faulty.

you can stick a paper clip in the ect switch the one on the thermostat housing just take the plug off and bend the paper clip so you can stick both ends in the plug and itll turn the fan on assuming your fan is still good and key in the on position. temp sensor is on the front where the top radiator hose is.
