Default Please point me in the direction of a c/v joint write up.

My girlfriend's 93 prelude is making the notorious honda click, is there a write up out there that will show me how to do it?

I've never had to fix such a problem before as I only drive toyotas. Haha, just kidding.

Or would anyone be so kind as to tell me what I would need to do, and what tools?

Thanks,
Eric.

honda click? last i remember all messed up cv joints click dont matter what it is you just gotta take the wheel off and take the spindal nut off take the hub loose so you can turn it all the way to one side take it out of the spindal then pop it out of the tranny with a big flat head or a chissle then just put every thing back togeather

That's confusing as hell for people who haven't done it before. Dirtykaw, get a copy of the prelude FSM.

PM me and i'll send you a copy if you need it.

mmm.. can't use PM since I just joined this forum. FSM I assume means service manual? You can email it to me at dirtykaw at yahoo.com if you want to be really nice...

I do understand the concept of taking it apart and popping out the shaft, but i was reading about cv's in a toyota manual and it was talking about some bearings in the transaxle..that had me worried..

Also need to know about tools.

Thanks.

It's not too hard.

-Remove wheel with car in neutral

-Remove bottom 19mm nut from hub assembly; it's the balljoint w/ the end facing towards the ground on the bottom.

-Use Pittman arm puller to pop joint, lift hub assembly off the lower control arm (thing the bolt ran through) and lift it over to the side. This will allow you to pull out the axle without losing your alignment. Be careful not to pull on the axle and separate it at the rubber boot/joints.

-Get under the car and, using a prybar or a bigass flathead screwdriver, pry between the axle "cup" going into the tranny and the tranny casing itself. You may want to try stickin the prybar between the two, pulling it hard steadily, then whacking it hard with a mallet. If it doesn't come loose after a few whacks, rotate the axle a bit then try again; the C-clip on the axle can sometimes be positioned by rotating to make it easier to pop out.

-Once axle is loose from tranny, pull it completely out from the tranny and let it hang.

-Hit the axle nut in the hub assembly (what's facing you when you remove the wheel) with an impact gun and a 36mm axle socket. Don't have an impact gun? Have fun

-Remove big nut, slide hub assembly forward and remove the axle from it. The axle is now ready to pull out.

Installation is the reverse. You can also hit the big axle nut off at the beginning, I don't think it makes much of a difference. To pop the axle back into the tranny, use a hammer/mallet and tap the "axle cup" back into the tranny once it's all positioned up. If it doesn't pop in easily, try rotating and trying again. Tap on the edge of the cop facing outward; it is covered w/ a rubber boot, so be careful not to damage it..
