Default Tranny problem? "bmmm" Bass tone sound comming when switching gears/decelerating

Hey guys,

Whenever im driving and switching gears i get this BASS (similiar to the reverse sound i guess.) Its pretty obvious and it makes those sounds..

Another example, when im in 5th gear and step on the gas, then let go i get the sound "bmmmm" while the car is decelerating... or when sitting @ idle/not movnig and i rev the car in neutral when i hit the 3k mark it makes the Bmmmm sound..

Do you guys have any ideas?? also today when i tried to start my car i was JUST GETTING THAT SOUND! No crank!! that it turned it and was okay.. minus those damn sounds...

Tranny for sure?? The engine pulls really strong and doesnt seem like a problem... car runs great other than that...

i still have warranty on the car.. , im calling the service shop tommorow morning,.. but if you guys have any ideas please let me know..

I'd also like to add that when at idle it makes whoosnig and whirring sounds /sometimes... not all the time -

when i TOUCH the clutch just a TAD it goes away...

Problems suck!.. My 02 rsx suonded like it had a dead racoon underneath once , surprised how i drove it home.. and it was just some stupid serpentine belt ?? *mind my ignornace..* .. thing is kinda similiar too...

Anyway, if you have any comments please let me know! THX!

Hm..the way when you said that when you decelerate makes it seem like a throw-out bearing. But I've never heard of a t/o bearing doing all those other things.

my clutch squeeks bad when im hard on the car..and getting it in first sometimes is a struggle, literally have to PUSH it in!

The whinning started today.... basically when i let off the gas and let it coast it just whines... is it possible its the output shaft bearing in the transmission???
or main shaft bearings ... i better get this thing solved before it becomes a bigger problem/damage done!!!

Here is a cutout of a guy that had the same problem on his RSX-S 2002...

"Someone else may be able to explain when the main shaft bearings in the transmission are moving (meaning when they would make noise)... but I can tell you some symptoms.

From what the mechanic said, both the noises my car had were related to it. The easy one to notice is when the car is in neutral and the clutch pedal is up. You'll get this background kind of whirring coming from the engine bay... then push the clutch in. The noise slows down and stops (over .5 to 1 sec or so). When you let the pedal up again, you'll hear it start back up at the engage point. Paranoia warning - The noise I'm talking about is not Loud, but is definitely more than barely audible. If you can barely hear it, then its working normally.

The other noise happened when in gear. As I would accelerate in first from a stop it was very pronounced. Sounded pretty close to the whiney noise you get when in reverse. Not exactly, but its the best analogy I have. I believe the noise would go away if I hit the clutch and let the engine spin down while coasting. This noise happened in all gears, whether accelerating or not. In higher gears it was harder to hear because of road and wind noise. The noise was significant enough that people were asking me about it - so again, if you can barely hear it there is probably no problem.

Oh yeah... it helps to cut the stereo off

Hope that helps"

----- He talks about the whirring/whing noise when in neutral, and how it goes away when the clutch is depressed.. ITS GOT TO BE THAT!! .. COMMENTS/Suggestions welcome!
