Default Looking at a JDM ITR swapped Hatch, what to look for..

just posting a thread so i know what to look for so i dont get *** raped on the deal im making.

The car i want suppostadly has a jdm ITR engine in it (97) and was wondering what i should look for on the engine to make sure everything is legit, like the head and the trans and all that, the dude said it has an lsd in it and said it runs awesome heres a pic of the engine. i just want to make sure its not like a b16 head or like b16 tranny or what not.

thanks alot guys!

Vin number off the tranny, VIN number off the block. CarFax.

If you decide to buy the car, make a waiver that clearly indicates you have no liability for any parts that might be stollen.

If its a legit swap, the guy shouldn't mind.

he said b18c

but i was just wondering if there is a stamp on the head or on the tranny i could look for to make sure its a real itr swap and not like a b16 or something.

If it is a JDM ITR, the engine code is B18C

If it is a USDM ITR, the engine code is B18C5

ITR head's are stamped PR3-X, X being any number 1-4

GSR head's are stamped P72-X, X being any number 1-4

I would be more worried about the legality of the swap before anything else. Possesion is a felony in most states.

if it's 97 spec then look for jh4 lsd near the slave cylinder(it's an ink stamp so it could rub off)..another way of checking is by jacking the front of the car up and put the transmission in gear, spin one front wheel, the other wheel will spin the other way.

No, if the holes on the tranny are threaded so a bolt could go in then its prob had a VIN removed, but the JDM ones just should be holes with no threads, which is impossible to tell from the pics.

do you know how much trouble this would be for honda to do this, thats nearly impossible. every tranny that is 96&up have the THREADED holes for a VIN plate if necessary depending on the car that casing will end up on and what country that car is going to.

Well he's using a P28 (OBD1 civic sohc vtec ECU), probably chipped.

Looks to be a JDM ITR motor. PR3 head, B18C block.

Its a real Type R. 2 reasons.

A. All markings on trans and motor are correct
B. I personally live next to this guy and know who the shop that did the swap.

Good luck to Eugene!

itr transmissions dont have any holes for a vin, if you geta replacement tranny from honda it comes with holes but they are "blank"- no threads

Wrong. 96+ (not 100 on year) JDM motors will have the holes for the VIN plates but they will not be threaded even the ITR ones (had a 98+ 4.785 ITR trans). 94-95 USDM trans will have no holes at all. All 96+ USDM trans are supposed to have VIN plates. If you see a motor with threads but no plate it was definitely removed and you should take caution in purchasing it.

That motor looks to be a legit JDM ITR motor.

Rich, I am glad that you are doing your homework on my car. It good to know that there are sound consumers out there such as yourself. Like I said before man, my car is legit, the motor is legit, the tranny is legit and the car is super clean.

Thanks for the vouch Truehonda, and everyone else. Rich, check your PM and your email, I think my S2K guy is going to flake.

I believe the rev limit is set at 9500 and it models that of a Kenji program, Chipped P28 is correct.

I have a replacement tranny case from the dealer on my caR and the holes are there but w/o threads.
