REVIEW: Megan racing header for B16
First of all, I would like to thank Shawn at Devltuning.com for the good price and fast shipment. I think it took 7-8 days to my door from California to Windsor, Ontario. I was impressed.
The header quality looked as good/better than my current DC sports 4-1 (when it was without holes and dents). The design was quite similar as well. This is the HC00SI (4-1) header that is supposedly for the B16 Hondas (not included on the Megan racing site, but is on the Devltuning.com site). I was surprised that the header was almost exactly the same height as the DC though (how would ground clearance compare...?).
After removing the DC (disconnected the 4 x-member bolts, left the radius rods on) I replaced it with the Megan. The Megan lined up perfectly with the existing catalyst flange, I was quite happy with not having to get the exhaust redone. The header IS shaped differently, so I ended up having to take out the x-member and treat it with the 10lb sledge; which never works out for the x-member. Well, it's in now.
PROBLEM #1: it ever so slightly touches the oil pan, since the angle is a little funky. This is it bolted right up. I was kind of surprised by this; hopefully it will be a non-issue since the DC was pretty much ALL on the oil pan.
PROBLEM #2: the ground clearance is VERY poor, even worse than the DC. I purchased the B16 header to try to alleviate the ground clearance issue. I KNOW the 4-2-1 gives better clearance, but I ASSUMED that this was for the B16 not the B18. I'll have to go with a front camber kit now, to save the exhaust. I'm not a believer in using a camber kit for the EF's.
VERDICT: I haven't driven this car in awhile and it's currently uninsured for street duty. So I haven't put it through it's paces yet (raced it). We'll have to see how it behaves at the autocross. Otherwise, can't really beat it for the price. Flanges lined up perfectly, pipe angles are a bit funky.
PICTURES; I need to find my camera and will take ANY pics (just ask).
Later,
Overkll
