PLEASE Explain how you fixed it if you did...

I have had a previous ek hatch. It used to leak and I figured out that the rain was coming in around the tail light foam gasket, so I added some silicone to make it thicker, and tadaaaa, no more leaks....

Now my new problem...

I got a new EK hatch and it has a crazy leak.... Also had a diy window rubber gasket around the rear window, so I did the tail light seal thing on this one, and it worked, no more leaking, but because of the diy gasket, it didn't look right around the window with this huge gab by the upper corners of the hatch....

sooo I added an oem rear window rubber all around and a new hatch, and what happens? I'm back to the leaking again, and I don't know what else I can fix to make it not leak... I have huge puddles when it rains hard.

For the lazy people:

I now have a oem rear hatch/window/rubber molding with thicker tail light foam gaskets and it still leaks....

What else must I do....

Edit :: waters come in somewhere through the passenger side only, drivers side is perfect. Door not aligned maybe???

i've found some water in that area a couple times after some big rain storms. i've heard that if you replace the foam padding between the frame and the tailight it should stop the leaks. i guess that padding wears out after a while and loosens the seal

Thats true, thats why I made my seals thicker using silicone. It worked on the previous hatch, but my current hatch worked till I replace the oem rubber rear window molding. Now it leaks again, and I can't figure out where its coming from.

Its not the tail light this time, the water seems to becoming in near the rear side of the hatch as opposed to the rear back tailight area.

Like most have mentioned its usually the tailight gasket. I had the same problem when I put my stock tailights back in.

And to the original poster, did you swap your tails for 99-00's or ever take your tailights off?

Mine definately leaks. I get a large amount of water in the spare tire well if I drive around during a rain storm. I am glad you started this thread, I am going to try and fix that tail light problem this weekend I guess.

I have heard of people actually punching small holes in the spare tire area, just so the water can drainout. Nice fix

My '96 hatch leaks and I'm too lazy to fix it. My '91 does the same. New seals on the hatch and taillights should do the trick.
