It's silly season for me...
Yep it will be a while before I make it to a race, let alone a track day. So what to do but dream about what IF I didn't want to race.
What would I buy? What would make a decent occasional back and forth to work car that could also be fun, not necessarily competitive, for autocross and track day use.
Here are a few I've been thinking of:
93+ RX-7
I know they have maintainence issues, but it's easier to find one that has an engine/turbo rebuild now days.
MR-2 or MR-S
I saw an MR-S the other day and thought, yeah that would be nice. Besides the wife wants one too.
Miata:
There's an older M edition that's been sitting around near my home in Jewrsey for about a year now. I drive by it everyday to and from work, and everyday those BBS rims call to me... no really I hear them. I daydream about walking on the lot and handing him money while saying "1200 bucks... cash" I think about it once a week. Sure, I'd have to put in a 4pt for track days. No big whoop. And plop down some cash for a wheel/tire combo from one of those adds in GRM and drive it. No changing the tires and no trailer.
The dream car would have to be an:
M-Coupe:
It's everything I'd want the CRX to be, more powerful, the correct-driven wheels... it's certainly different. You either love 'em or hate 'em. To me they're kind of a retro MGB-GT.
So as I buy the new fire bottle that I accidentally discharged when installing the passenger seat into the ITA car (where's that hammer-head icon at?), and try and re-rent an appartment (racing funds come from here) I'll entertain the thoughts of getting out of the sport, even if it's in my head. The consolation prize would be one of the above cars.
Wasting bandwidth on a Friday.

As I said at Pocono-I should have bought the 'vette <G>. Then again the CRX keeps me humble. That is going to be true as long as I amlearning to drive it faster-and even afterward.
One must have a roof over their head to survive. Transportation of some sort seems to be required (other than foot power) in this day and age. What you can comfortably afford to buy to feed this addiction (racing) is up to you. We all suffer from balancing actitis. I may be slow-but I finish. Operating costs are low compared to the other options that I have-so I stick with what I have. I also came to the conclusion that one can step back and breathe for a while. I took a year away from my other hobby (I'm a turtle runner)-running. Went back on course last Saturday and had a blast. I did something my doctors would rather me hang up my shoes for-I love it. Will I continue, you bet. Will I do track days-absolutely. The trick is to balance the need to do it against what you can do financially. Get comfy-take a break if you must. I spent over 25years rasining a family and came back-that is how strong the desire is in me.
Peace and have a great 4th

Speaking of being slow, I'm looking at your icon and realizing that you're car looks awfully familiar... PDE 6/17-18? You're a grandpa? How 'bout dem apples.
IF so very nice meeting/talking with you...
Will I ACTUALLY sell my race car, truck and trailer... naw, but I think about it from time to time.
Silly season is me waiting for the wave of finances and time to come back on the upswing.
Ciao for now

I wouldnt touch a miata on track without a real rollbar. Flimsy fiberglass top or not.

AFAIK, no rollbars are made for the MR-S.</TD></TR></TABLE>
There are a couple of places that have a bolt-in roll bar available for the MR-S. I'm pretty sure TRD sells one. A local autoXer (Rob Leone) used to have one on his C Stock MR-S. I dont who made the bar he had. Elda maybe?
I don't think Rob has the bar in the car anymore. He might be willing to sell it to you. Heck he's been talking about selling his MR-S too... If you want an MR-S all ready for CS and the occassional track day, contact Rob.

i'm stuck in bimmerland. wondering if i should forego real food, booze, and my social life so as to afford to build one of those "mother of bad ideas" track ******.
it could be worse, at least i'm not trying to build a one off car from scratch with no welding skills or even a clue as to where to start...(more duct tape = chassis reinforced!) but, tbh i can't afford a project car. i don't even have the garage space or something to tow it with...
just a dollar (literally) and a dream!

The turbo's aren't exactly cheap (compared to a miata, anyway), and are actually quite heavy for their size. I would think a MR-S would be a better auto-x car, being MUCH lighter and smaller. I would rather have a Turbo for the street though.
