Project EG in the making (Pictures... 56k, I duno)
Updated AUG 8- Motor And Tranny Purchased- PAGE 2
Alright guys I bought this piece of **** a while back and to be honest it's still a piece of ****. Anyway I decided to make documentation of all the work. A lot of the pictures are still on a disposable camera and i'll get those pics up asap. The pics on the disposable include: How the car first looked, swapping the motor etc.
Anyway here are the pics I have now of the painting process
1.) I bought the car and it had shaved side moldings (which i hate), so I removed the bondo w/ a hammer and a screw driver. Sprayed it w/ rattle can rust stop (which was in the car when i bought it lol). I also removed all of the rubber trimming on the roof, windshield, doors, etc and gutted the interior. (it's going back in @ the end.)
2.) The guy had rattle can primered the ENTIRE car with some ace hardware **** that wasn't even for autobody. So I started by sanding it off.

3.) Alright so finally I got all of that **** off, and it was a pain in the ******* ***. Wet sanding like you would not believe for days and days. I got down to the black base coat and then on the bare metal areas where the shaved side moldings were I sprayed an etching primer.
4.) This is what the car looks like so far. It's primered now completely. I turned my garage into a makeshift paintbooth by draping carpenters plastic over the walls. I took off the doors to get to the jambs, i'm doing the doors tomorrow. The entire interior of the car was stripped except the dash and headliner. I'll take additional photos w/ the rest of the parts on after i finish tomorrow.

5.) School started yesterday. I didn't get to paint the car like I thought I was going to. Anyway it's just sitting in the garage right now. Reason for no paint is because I'm using the money I have right now for a B series. I should be picking it up tomorrow.
Here is an updated pic of the car w/ the door and one of the fenders on. The fender hasn't been bolted yet so it looks out of place, and the doors still need adjustment. Alright so I guess i'll update w/ pics of the swap first and then paint will follow, cya.

July 12, 05 Update
6.) Okay I took the motor out today. I should be getting the B tomorrow, here are pics. Once you learn to pull a motor, it gets really easy! The first time I pulled a motor I did it the hard way through the bottom because I had no cherry picker. But this time I knew everything, had the tools and stuff and it only took about an hour to pull
Hooked
Lifting
Out!
While the bay is empty i'm going to do a thorough cleaning. It needs it.... I'm also going to do the wire tuck if I have enough time. If you're wondering what all that redish **** is. It's dust from sanded primer =P.

I dont see it as a waste of time. I wanted to primer the entire car before painting it
1.) Because there were several sand-throughs and a coat of primer over the entire car would for sure take care of them
2.) I wanted to be able to find high and low spots on the car and the primer is going to make it easier on me since i have an untrained eye. (first time painting) I'm really tryin to make this turn out half way decent.
I get where ur coming from though, cuz i would have just sprayed over the base but honestly that picture is lying. If you looked up close you would see all the flaws.
I'm still debating on a color. I had originally wanted a desert something color that comes on the crv's, but then I heard painting metallic colors is difficult if ur a newbie. So I'm leaning towards a solid color which is most likely going to be the vanilla white off of the new dodge magnums. Its kind of like a champ white except more creamy. I did sort of want to take it back to black but again, i'm not a painter, so i'm going to try go for a color that's easy to work with and is a little more forgiving

oh yeah i forgot to leave out.... You know that sticker where the vin number is on the quarter panel? Are those replacable? LOL Cuz my dumb *** sprayed right over it. I didn't even think to mask it until it was too late.

Take laquer thinner to it, it's laminated so the numbers won't come off. Had to do it once myself.
Painting metallic isn't bad at all, it's only if you get a run or something that is not forgiving, since the metallic would all build up in it. Do a color you really want, don't settle on something you don't want because you don't think you can do another.

I've heard that it's easy to "tiger stripe" with metallic paints if ur not good at spraying. I, myself, am not confident in my abilities to spray paint.... I dont really have the luxury to practice either since I dont own a compressor. (Had to rent one)
So you think I should just go with my original plan?
Here is the bigger problem I had today w/ spraying the primer. I had to spray like 4 inches from the panel in order to get a uniformed coat look. At 6 inches away I would get a spackle pattern unles I moved very slow. There was some orange peel look to the primer, which Is fine since im sanding anyways, but I would hate to get same results with a base.

Good ****.
It reminds me of my Si. I bought a 92 which was in **** shape as well. Slowly but surely its going thorugh the same process. I need to sand the bitch down though. Its alot of work thats for sure. Its a good feeling seeing the car go from **** box to nice.
Did you have any rust problems? If so where and how did you take care of them?
Looks good so far!
