i was driving when my car just dies out of no where. get it home and it cranks wierd because of the sound it makes. i pull the plug and see if i get spark and nothing. this happen to me before and it was usually the distributor, i buy one off ebay and still the same thing!

i get no CEL, i unplug my distributor and try to start it and there is no CEL, i start to unplug my map sensor and different kinds of sensors and it won't throw a CEL. so i think its my ECU. is there a way to test it before i shell out some money for a ECU on ebay?

 

have u checked the ignition coil ? #12 on pic:

 

yeah bro i bought two distributor;s off ebay. and i don't think its the coil. the first distributor looked all rusted inside so i thought i just got a bogus distributor and then i bought one that was in great condition and was off a running car. still the same thing bro.

anybody have some knowlegde to share?

 

If you don't have spark that is a place to start. First off, how are you checking for spark?

I would pull out your ignitor and test it with a voltometer...check your service manual (chiltons, helms, haynes etc) for guidlines. If its not your ignitor then I would say a bad plug or possibly a bad plug wire. You can go down the line and check things to determine if something is bad or not. Oh and typically a bad ignitor won't throw an ecu...it just won't start .

Did the timing belt break? Remove the oil fill cap and look down in there while someone cranks the engine. Do you see anything moving?

 

i used starting fluid and also used a multimeter.

i am going to swap ecu with a friends and see what happens.

 

I found out the problem! a friend help me look at the car and when i was testing the distributor again, he told me that my rotor in my distributor wasn't spining. so then i look at the timing belt and sure enough the timing belt was missing some teeth and wouldn't turn over the cams and thats why i wasn't getting any spark because the rotor wasnt hitting the cap.

just thought i post that since nobody really lets you know how they fixed it.

Thanks for letting u know. That's almost always the first thing I check when getting a died while driving complaint. One of the quickest, easiest checks that can save so much time.
