Default Help!

First it kept running hot so I changed the thermostat and it ran very well for a few days. then my wife called because it wouldn't start. I went to take a look at it and after a few minutes I figured that it was the starter so I pushed started it and on the way home I had a stop to make. I let it run due to the starter not working properly. It ran hot; very hot just sitting there. light (not thick white) smoke started coming from the exhaust. It cut off. I check the oil and it looks good. I check the coolant and it looks good. So, I had it towed home and I haven't been able to get it to start since. The motor is not locked because I can push it to get it almost started but when I turn the ignition it acts as if the battery is low. It just keeps clicking Even when I try to jump it with my other car it still does the same thing. When I first put the new starter on it turned very slowly and that's all I've gotten out of it. I'm thinking maybe I need to replace my ground wire. I'm just pulling at straws.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Sounds like a headgasket to me, maybe the slow cranking is coolent in the cylinders. Pull the plugs, and have some one crank it for a second, and see if anything shoots out.

Now if only my problem was this simple

Yea, it sounds like a coolant problem. I'd go with the blown headgasket, only because your saying that it cranks slow and the white smoke. If this is the case, this sux because its not necissarily hard to take apart a head, Just EXTREMELY TEDIOUS.
