Default I wish I wouldn't have driven w/ an open downpipe ;)

I just finished boosting my 97' Prelude the other day and drove it to the exhaust shop with an open downpipe. I'm only running 5 or 6 lbs. of boost, but holy crap did it feel fast (I'm sure you guys running > 8 lbs. are laughing at me right now ) and the turbo spooled like it was no one's business.

Anyway, I had to have the muffler shop hook everything up to my stock piping/muffler after the cat until I get a 3" cat-back in a couple weeks (I'll have to take my wife shopping or something to justify that ) Don't get me wrong, it still feels way faster than stock, but nothing like it did with the open downpipe

So does anyone have any good suggestions on a good QUIET 3" exhaust? I've had my eye on the 3" apex'i WS 2, but my decision isn't final yet. Does anyone make a 3" cat-back system for a Prelude SH? They all seem to be 2.25 or 2.5".

I wish kteller made a cat-back piping kit for my car. I guess I could always get a couple bends/straight pipe and weld it up myself with my trusty mig-100 flux welder

Buy pipes from JC Whitney, JEGS, Summit or from local muffler shop.

Cut and weld yourself. So much cheaper.

Kteller does have mufflers pretty cheap though. Cheaper than I could find locally.

yea man i know how you feel. this was my exhaust setup: 2.5" downpipe the ends where the cat ended then the section after that is stock then i had a axle back exhaust/muffler that came on the car when i bought it and it was like 2.25 straight through.. the other day i decided im going to run a cutout and a stock exhaust so i went to the junkyard and got a stock exhaust for 20 bucks and put it on.. its soo much slower and i had a crappy exhaust to begin with

Cutout would be cool, but won't my ecu go into limp mode everytime it doesn't get any readings from the o2 sensors?

what fuel management are you using?
also just put it after your o2 sensors

I'm using the ultra high-tech fmu setup I figured it would be fine for now since I'm only running 5 or 6 lbs.

short spiel...uberdata is free its not that hard to learn all you need is a chip burner and a socketed ecu...

but anyways you can still use a cutout just put it after the o2 sensors.

its basically a short branch out from your exhaust that you keep capped off for everyday use and when you are at the track or whatever you can uncap it and be running open downpipe since the exhaust gases no longer have to go through the mufflers... thus making more power...there are also electronic versions of this where theree is a butterfly valve like your throttle body that is controlled by an electric motor and you flip a switch and it opens up just like that looks like this lol

The key to quiet is RESONATORS. Put as many as you can fit (the same diameter as exhaust to not make a restriction) and it will be quiet.
