Default Going from a auto to a manual

hey everyone, this would be my first post, but i am sure there will be more to come. so anyway....

i found a nice prelude in the newspaper. it was all i wanted. low miles, blk/blk, leather, it was cheap. then i saw a/t.

so i was wondering how much would it cost to convert an automatic transmission into a manual, labor costs included i guess. im assuming it wouldnt be an easy task to do by yourself.

thanks,

nick

It's too much work and too much money. Find a 5spd Prelude and go from there.

You are luck since you know what you want now. Many end up modding an auto tranny car only to later on regret it. They can't turn around and sell it and start over.

As I always say, do it right the first time.

Andy speeks the truth. You will be much better off getting what you want the first time. Although it can be done an A/T to M/T swap is going to end up in a lot of money being spent. You'd be better off over paying for a M/T than getting a good deal on a A/T and swapping it.

thanks for the opinions. i had a feeling it was costly, but i wanted to make sure. it pisses me off so much that the prelude is everything, yes everything i need, but it is a a/t. it sucks. its not like a civic where there is 50 new adds everytime the auto section in the newspaper comes. im having trouble finding a 5th generation prelude. there are only so many to choose from. i had found a decent one, but of corse it has to be dark green. i dont know what i can do with that, unless i want to spend $$ on a new paintjob.

Keep looking, it took me at least 4 or 5 months before I found my 5th gen. Have you checked autotrader.com?

If possible, keep looking. Same thing happened to me with my current prelude except I didnt have time to wait and look for another car so I just went with the auto even though I knew I would regret it later on. Like most have said, its too much trouble and costly to do the swap so Im just going to trade this one in for a 5spd or a diff car after its paid off. Hopefully the tranny will last till then lol.

It cost me 125 dollars for my auto to manual swap, 125 dollars for all the parts needed from a prelude in the junkyard and they took off everything, So i felt it was a really good price.Plus the swap was not As hard as some people make it seem.no cutting through the firewall like some people say,I would say finding a prelude that is already a manual is better but im having no problems and it can be done.

wow, i never realized how hard it would be to find a 5th generation prelude with decent miles and such. iv been looking about a month. im pissed becuase my friend recently got a 97 with 30k miles. yes 30k. its an automanual. he would be the second owner. the car is mint in/out. red in color. clean title. he got it for 8k. lucky lucky man. he can probley sell it in 2 years and get the 8k back.
