Your components should come with a crossover, so one set of speaker wire comes into the crossover, then 2 sets of wires run out (one to the tweeter and the other to your component speaker) so as to seperate the frequencies

What components are you looking at?

no i dont have component speakers. i just always wondered what the difference was because when i was buying upgrade speakers for my front doors, there were component ones that come with a lil box and didnt kno what they did soo i got just regular upgrade speakers.

and i dont have tweeters yet but was wondering how you wire them because there aint no seperate wires for them. and my question is, DO YOU WIRE THEM TO THE SAME WIRES AS YOUR FRONT SPEAKERS?? and WHAT THE HECK DO COMPOENT SPEAKERS DO that regular ones dont??

By the way, what kind of car do you have?

Components simply means the tweeter is not connected to the woofer. You can mount the woofer down in the door by itself and the tweeter up in the dash, if you car is set up for it.

In a car with dash tweeters (like my Prelude) there is usually a set of coaxial speakers in the door (normal speakers, where both drivers are connected to the same axis) plus a set of tweeters.

The little boxes that come with components are crossovers. They separate the high frequency from the low frequency sound. On a nice set of speakers (like nice components) the crossovers are in their own separate boxes because they are nicer, since you want good sound and you want to protect the tweeters from low frequency signals. On a really nice set, the crossovers are pretty big, because the frequency cutoff points are adjustable. Sometimes there's even different ways to wire them (like with one channel or two channels).

On dash tweeters, I think there's a cheap stock crossover behind the speaker somewhere filtering the signal. I'm guessing they're wired in parallel with the front coaxials. If you're installing a custom stereo setup, however, there are probably other ways.

Hope that helps.

I have a 4door 98 civic...what if i have upgrade speakers in the front doors with tweeters stuck on the woofer (2-way speakers/non components). can i still use crossovers to send the correct frequencies to my new tweeters?? and will anything happen to tweeters that are on my 2-way speakers on my front doors if i do this?? cause wont the crossovers send the high frequencies to my new tweeters and the low to my 2-way speakers?? so wont it effect the tweeters on there?? someone clear this up..thanks

Okay, this is where my knowledge gets hazy. There is a crossover already behind the dash tweeter and yes, you could get nicer ones. But you wouldn't be separating the highs to the tweeter and the lows to the coaxial, you would just be cutting off lows from the tweeter. It wouldn't be wired in series with the coax. Coaxial speakers I believe have a tiny built-in crossover hidden somewhere, and I don't think you can substitute something in its place. That's one advantage of components: You can actually use a separate crossover, just like you'd use a separate amp outside the head unit to achieve quality there.

Verify this somewhere.

ok, soo i have a 98 civic LX which doesnt have any dash tweeters (just two rear speakers and two front door speakers). i have upgraded my front door speakers cause they blew allready and i replaced it with 2-way infinity 6002si speakers. so how would i go about adding tweeters on the door panel?? what would i use to power them?? and what kind of tweeters should i get (components/regular upgrade tweeters)?? and what would be the best thing to do with what i got so far (tweeter wise)??

you can get seperate tweeters, to go with ur infiniti's, and then buy a set of crossovers. Or u can use an amp instead of the crossovers. Or buy component set for 100-200 (comes w/ crossovers). They usually dont sell seperate tweeters at retail stores, but on sounddomain.com is where i bought mine (pioneer). I also wanted to and did add a component system (speaker + tweeter) to my civic, with my existing speakers. I also bought crossovers (kicker) from ebay.

To install, you can either find the stock tweeter brackets for your model or drill a hole in ur door panel. I did the latter.

To do this, Make sure you get a drill w/ a holesaw, measure the tweeter, and drill a hole big enough to place enough room that it fits snug to the panel with no screws. The desired spot is top right (driver's side)/top left(passenger side) of ur door panel. Then take the crossover, tape it to the inside of ur door panel, and place some plastic over it so it wont get wet from rain. To connect, the crossover should have 3 sets of terminals, with (+,-);one for the speaker, one for the tweeter, and one for the wires from your harness, the speaker wires coming from the car (possibly coloured blue and white). The wires with a stripe is negative, from what i remember. Just connect them all and reinstall ur door panel. Test it and then repeat on the other side. It should take about 45 min. to 1 hr. depending on if you ever took ur door panel off. If you know how, it should take much less. any q's just pm me.

Of course, the real biznitch is if you amp it, wiring new speaker wire into the doors.

allright last questions to make sure before i buy some component tweeters. soo i could wire my infinity 6002si 2-way speakers to the crossover right?? and nothings gonna happen to the quality of the tweeter or woofer on it cause of adding seperate tweeters to the door panels with the crossover??

Huh? You'd wire the crossovers to the speakers they came with because otherwise you can't run your components. I'm not sure you could hook up a crossover to a normal coaxial speaker without cutting the tweeter wires and hooking them up separately. The crossover splits the signal from one pair of speaker wires into two.

aww i thought i was able to... ...so HOW DO I ADD TWEETERS THEN WITH MY ALLREADY EXISTING 2-way infinity 6002si speakers allready set up?? i dont wanna buy new components with a woofer and tweeter when i allready got some 2-way infinities...i think i saw some infinity kappa tweeters that come with the tweeters and a crossover....i thought enwycee was giving me instructions that i could use my 2-way speakers with seperate tweeters by connecting the crossover to my 2-way speakers, then to the serperate tweeters, then to the harness wires...now you said i cant use my 2-ways wit the crossovers because it splits the signals/frequencies, and i thought the 2-way speakers had a built in crossover...and im juss confused haha...soo CAN I GET A CLEAR UP ON ^^^ and/or CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME A WAY TO ADD TWEETERS WITH MY EXISTING infinity 2-way speakers or is buying components that come witha woofer and tweeters the only solution soo im gonna have ta get rid of my 2-ways?? what about the component tweeters i saw that come with a crossover and tweeters?? how would that work also then??

thanks alot for your repeated replies...i kno its gettin a pain in the ***

Hey that's okay, sometimes you have to repeat stuff... anyway, there's already a stock crossover just for the dash tweeter, if you have a stock dash tweeter. You can replace that tweeter and it will already just be receiving highs. If you want to add a dash tweeter along with your Infinity coaxials, you'll have to get a tweeter with crossovers. As for wiring that add-on setup, ask someone else.

Ok, you already have good aftermarket 2way speakers and now you want to add tweeters cuz you dont have any, correct? Yes, you can just buy a set of tweeters. These tweeters will either have built in crossovers on the tweet iteself or it will have a separate crossover box. Either way, can directly tap into the power leads going into your 2way.

(tweeter) --> (Xover either built in or separate) --> (power lead in the door)

so nothing will happen to the quality of my 2-ways if i juss tap the tweeters to the wires that go into my 2-way?? or if i use a crossover and connect the 2-ways to the crossover?? thanks

I'm not so sure about that. Tweeters take power, just like any speaker, so it will make your front bass quieter.
I don't know if you have nice speakers in back, but if I were you I'd move those Infinitys to the back and get some components for the front.
Then amp them.

There are many kinds of speakers, in car audio, we separate them into 4 or 5 categories.....
1- full range or dual cone and other names like "crap" most OEM speakers are dual cone, they have a cone like you see on any speaker, but they will also have a small funnel shaped cone in the center, [wizzer cone] for high frequency, very basic.
2-coax or triax and even a "4ax" also known as 2way,3way and 4way speakers, the have the same woofer cone but will also have tweeter bridge or post mounted to the speaker, [2way] the triax will have a tweeter and a "super tweeter" mounted in the same way as the 2way, the 4way, well they are just stupid, the x-over for these types of speakers are hardly ever anything more then a small cap mounted to the tweeter/s a 6dB high pass filter also called 1st order high pass.
3-point source, kind of like a coax, tweeter is post mounted, but it will have a much better off board x-over, 18dB x-overs high pass, low pass some even have band pass and Zobel networks, end result of off board x-overs is better SQ.
4- components, 2way and 3way, main diff. from all the above is the tweeter is separate from the woofer, and in the case of 3way components you have a woofer a mid range and a tweeter, although some components come with only a very basic 6dB high pass filter for the tweeter most components come with better off board x-overs.
5- subs, speakers used for making bass, "sub bass".

Your 6002si 2ways will have a cap for the tweeter, if you get a set of tweeters, "add on type" they will come with, as calxtreme said, they will come with a x-over, some with just the 6dB filter, [cap] in line or right on the tweeter or a better 12dB 2nd order filter, almost always in line, you would be able to wire them, [parallel] with the door speaker, although it will have little effect on the door speaker itself, anytime you parallel speakers together you drop the impedance load that the amp sees, so a 4ohm door speaker paralleled with a 4ohm tweeter is a 2ohm load, the amp will make twice as much power, run hotter, use more current, not a biggy, if the amp is stable at 2 ohms, if you are using deck power, this may be a problem, another thing to consider is SQ, adding the tweeter will effect SQ, most of the time SQ suffers, imaging will be a effected, having the same frequencies being produced from two speakers in diff. places, [coax tweeter low in door and separate tweeter mounted someplace else, so before you mount the tweeters permanently use a little double sided tape try them out, [in a few diff. places and see if you like the sound...... more like a dimes worth 94

One thing to remember though, a two ohm load with a tweeter will be much easier to run the a subwoofer with a two ohm load. High frequencies dont require anywhere near the amount of power low frequencies do. So your amp may not run as hot as you think.

ok got my infinity kappa 10.7t tweeters earlier today. it came with a crossover but it DIDNT have 3 sets of +,- for the tweeters, woofer, and speaker wires. it only has a +,- wire going into the crossover and back out which then connects to the tweeters. so i juss wired it to my 2-ways also. i didnt hear any distortion so i guess itll work like that. and i spent almost 100 on those tweeters juss because it came with a crossover and the way the wires just go through the crossover and back out makes it seem like i could of just got the 50 dollar infinity tweeters with a allready built in crossover since i would of connected both the same way which was directly to my 2-ways. anyone wanna tell me why the crossovers were like this?? cause damn those tweeters were a grip of money and i wanna know if i got my moneys worth

BTW the reason there is only one set of wires in and one set out is that it is all that is needed the x-over is only for that tweeter, there is no mid range/woofer to be wired off it.
