Default valve cover questions

when you take the valve cover off...

-do you need to put something on top of the head after its removed?

-do all heads have a valve cover gasket, can i re-use the gasket?

while polishing it, what do i need to cover with masking tape, oil cap holder, spark plug holes?

any other suggestions?

TIA

I reused my gasket.
As long as you don't rip/tear it when taking off the cover, you should be okay. I don't know what you need to do as far as prep work.

not if you remove the valve cover from the motor.

remove the old gaskets though. the aircraft paint remover will eat it.

there should be 8 grommets (rubber w/metal. its the one that the studs go through that hold the valve cover in place)

8 spark plug gaskets that are stuck on the under side of the valve cover when removed.

and the big valve cover gasket.

remove the misc 10mm bolts that hold the spark plug wire holders down too.
