when you take the valve cover off...

-do you need to put something on top of the head after its removed?

-do all heads have a valve cover gasket, can i re-use the gasket?

while polishing it, what do i need to cover with masking tape, oil cap holder, spark plug holes?

i would throw some CLEAN rags over top of it to make sure no **** goes into there. also u can reuse the gasket as long as it wasnt leaking before

Yes cover the head when the valve cover is off, a trach bag works great.

You can reuse the old gasket if it is still in good shape.

You don't necessarily have to mask off any of the holes, just wipe them out before reinstalling the cover

what i would do, that nobody else does, is make sure nothing gets under the baffle on the underside of the cover. its impossible to clean under there (unless you soak it or something)
