Default Made a bunch of room under the hood

I removed the entire AC system and removed the cooling fan and came up with this...

I put a slimline electric fan in front of the radiator as a pusher fan.

a closer look...

I now have a bunch of room under the hood and the car is running great.

the hoses and condenser are damaged and no good. You can have the fans, evaporator, and compressor. I make no gaurentee that it works though. It hasn't worked since i bought the car.

yeah that is what I am thinking about. I'm not going to do it to this engine though. It's too old and just a DPI 1.5 I'm either going to get another car to be my daily driver or a shell to build.

I don't think it's possible. It took most of the space that the condenser was in to mount the new fan.

Check that lower radiator hose... it looks spooky.

I guess I can write this up as a DIY thing.

Ok head over to pep boys, O'reilly's, Autozone etc. and get a slim electric fan like this

After you have removed the AC condenser you should have room to mount the fan in front of the radiator. The wiring and mounting instructions are included with the fan.

Take the front bumper off (you're on your own there, mine's easy. Yours may not be) install the fan and cut the connector off of the OEM fan unit.

Remove the OEM fan assembly. Should just be 2 scews up top and a tab or two on the bottom.

Wire the fan up (NOTE: Don't make it a permanent connection) My fan came with a Blue and a black wire fron the motor. The OEM connector also has a blue and a black wire. I had to connect the Black to blue and vise versa to get the fan spinning in the proper direction. Make sure it is pushing air into the engine bay! To test this just let the engine idle until it gets hot. The fan will kick on.

Once you are sure it is pushing air through you are finished. Just put the bumper back and secure the wiring and you are all set.

I'll get some pics of the fan install posted later.

as far as the radiator hose goes it's just rust on the hose clamp. I'm plannign to get some new ones soon.

How much for the fan?

I wonder if this is more effective since you're pulling in cooler outside air instead of pushing out hot motor air?

Hmmmmm

Technicly is pushing air, not pulling. Stock its pulling. But IMO pushing air Thru the rad is more efficent.

I had the fan laying around from an old RX7 project I was doing a while back. I want to say I paid about $30 for it. I know it's less than $50.

The AC hadn't working int he year I had the car. I wasn't all about dumping money into fixing it so I doubt I'll be missing anything except about 45lbs from the car.

I dont think it's good to have the fan in front of the radiator...
The fan should be inside the engine bay to blow hot air out if the engine bay...

makes sense no ?

I just left my stock fan in there.

fans are more efficient pulling through the radiator from the engine side, thats why they are there OEM

nah, If you read the thread. Stock, the fans are PULLING air THRU the rad, meaning its pulling air from the front, thru the rad, INTO the engine bay. its still going to blow hot air into the engine bay.
