Default Help me decide

I own a 97 Accord LX 4-Cyl, brought new in Aug 97 and maintained well since.
I have 83K miles on it, my question to you is does my car needs Timing belt service now (based on age) or can I wait till 105K miles on my car?
I just want to buy some time before shelling out ~$800 for service.

Please advise

Most of the time it depends on how your drive. If you baby the car 105k should be alright. But if you drive the car hard 70-80k i would recommend. 800 dollars for Timing belt seems kinda high to me.

I really shouldn't be saying this (Hondasean will have my A.. for this) but I went 156,000 on the original belt(s). That being said, I don't recommend it since most all Honda engines built after the F22"s were introduced are "interference" engines.
What that means is that; because Honda tightened up the running clearances between the pistons and the valves to the point that SHOULD the timing belt break while running, you can kiss goodby the majority of valves and possibly a piston or two......
This will immediately prompt
1) instant reflections of why you waited to have the belt done
2) Several days of questioning; "Do I fix what I've got or"
3) Do I suffer with an H22 swap.

Honda recommends either 80,000 or 105,000 depending on driving style and region that you drive in.

Find an Independent garage that specializes in Honda"s. They will be cheaper
