Im buying an AEM CAI today, what can I expect?
Ok so ive got the K&N drop in filter replacement and am getting my mitts on an AEM CAI after work this evening, should I expect any gains? I tried searching in the hope of seeing dyno charts or something but no such luck.
Unfortunately I have no idea whether its the AEM V1 or V2 but for the price im paying im not too bothered.
Will this just sound loud? Add HP? add torque? The main thing is that I dont want to be losing power as long as thats not the case i'll be a happy bunny!
Please post your comments, especially those who own a AEM CAI installed on an s2000
Thanks

I think youll like the AEM intake alot. I did, it sounded great in VTEC and provided a deep sound from around 3-5k rpm range. But the sound in VTEC is awsome. There is of course minimal power gains, and torque gain in the mid range area (mostly) and some gains up top. the sound the intake makes will amplify how much you think you've gained.
You will probably not notice gains although there will be some. You will, however, notice the sound and maybe throttle response changes. You won't be disappointed with your purchase. AEM is a quality intake.

1. It will take time to get used to the sound. It is much louder than stock but you get totally used to it in a week or two.
2. AEM has dyno charts. You won't loose power.
3. Expect to drain 1 gal from the radiator and expect to cut the hell out of your fender liner and other plastic trays...
4. You will probably spend a lot more time at WOT and get lower MPG
5. Enjoy

You should really try and get a V2.
Dyno charts are at aempower.com
Please don't drain the radiator bullshit.
There are a few ounces of liquid in the line you're going to unplug. Get a plastic cup from Taco Bell and put it under the line as you remove it to drain what you need. Put a cloth underneath if you are worried about a mess. I used that method last week and it went great. Put the stuff from the cup back in the radiator.

I wouldn't buy any of their intakes because of their dyno charts. Minimal overall power.

Tip: use an old steak knife. Dremels work, but they typically burn and deform the plastic. Touch up on a slow grind with the dremel if you have to, but don't cut it with it.

when i installed my aem v2, i did not drain any radiator fluid nor did i spill any. i also did the work after the car was off overnight
There is some coolant in the throttle body hose.
Dremel works fine. Also, use common sense when installing and do not follow the AEM guide by the letter. Remember to reset the ECU at the end and do a proper start up.
You can't expect major performance mods from any inake.

go to s2ki.com and read in there forum about how to prevent hydrolock. There is a drain hole that drips right onto the filter and has been known to cause the CAI to collect water at the first bend in heavy rain if the car is sitting. There have been a few cases where it collected enough water to hydrolock the engine at start up. On s2ki.com you should be able to find information about plugging the hole and shielding the filter to prevent this.

I have solved the hydrolock problem with a small piece of electrical tape over the hole in question. This has worked for over a year so far including three hurricanes that came through dropping over 12 inches of rain in less than 24 hours while my car was parked.

I went through a big storm yest. My car sat in the movie theater parking lot while i poured. I drove home with no issues, even hit vtec for the hell of it. i have a vented hood and no issues. Like terd i have the hole covered and i also covered anothe area below that hole with tape. it seems to be working fine
You have to cut the fender liner for the AEM to draw cold air from the front bumper and I believe you may need to relocate the horn (if I remember correctly).
That was the actually deciding facter for me to go with thk K&N FIPK unit instead. I heard the AEM is louder than the K&N, but after the install was complete I was happy with the sound and the price
for the K&N

I used a box blade. Much sharper and it cuts the hard plastic a lot easier than your basic steak knife or pocket knife.
