starting problem
as the title says im having troubles with my car('91 std hatch with stock motor) starting... i have spark, air, and fuel but the fuel doesnt seem to be getting to any of the cylinders as the pistons are dry right after we try to start it... while cranking over the engine you can see little puffs of fuel come out of the throttle body if you take the cover off... anyways it seems like the longer the car sits the harder it is to start... and tonight it would not start... turn the key to acc and the ecu(pm9) flashes 17 short flashes... wouldnt it be one long flash and then 7 short ones? thanks for all the input guys... i really need to get this thing running for my new job

Also im going to check compression...since it smokes like u said, i think possibly ur head gasket may have finally given out...i have the compression tester here in my dorm...ill bring it over tomorow
cool... give me a call and we'll check it out... i did it a few months ago and i got 180 across the board with one 185... but we'll see if that changes anything

just a thought but could it be the main relay? i have no idea but it just popped into my head that that might be the source of the problem... idk its getting late

This is a DPFI motor...he has the number 3 and 4 spark plugs, stripped inside the head, so cant get them out they just spin, so i would imagine there is some blow by through them, wich would cause compression problems...so doing a compression check on just #1 and #2 isnt gonna prove to much, unless the #s are crappy...but it sounds like a hg to me right now, since the timing is set
timing is set... havent changed wires around or messed with any wiring so that wouldnt be a problem... this was a slow problem that got worse over time(about a week or two)... i went out this morning and tried to start it and it started right up and ran like normal... when i took it for a drive it got worse and worse and it stalled on me at a light and i had to push it to a gas station because it wouldnt start... when it did drive there was white smoke coming out the exhaust and when i opened up the oil plug on the valve cover i smelled a little bit of coolant... im going to go see how much a headgasket will cost since i get 20% off at advance auto parts and see if its worth spending the money for the motor to run for a few more weeks until i get the Z6 in... if you have any more suggestions then lmk... i will keep you guys updated... thanks
