89 civic project starting with brakes
hey guys i have an 89 civic which im building to be a quick street car and maybe ill autox it some. but im starting out with the brakes as i have good wheels and tires for what i want right now. ive searched and read that some people suggest to just buy new pads and some people just say to do a swap from a DC4 integra. i have no clue which to do but id like some suggestions. thanks
If the most braking its going to see is auto-x, get some good pads, good fluid and make sure everything in the braking system is good to go, rear disc is going to be an overkill and its also heavier.
I run rear drum and 10.2" fronts on my CRX which I road-race, true the car only weighs 1700 lbs, but you can do multiple 120-15 runs without brake fade.

should i buy something on the lines of aem aftermarket brake pads or should i just go to autozone and pick up semi-metallic pads
im looking to do only my front two brakes and just keep the drums in back how they are.

I guess that depends just what you're looking for out of your brake system. If you don't need more capacity than stock, by all means go to kragen and save some money. Otherwise, there are a number of companies that sell performance pads that can take the abuse of hard driving and keep you from overshooting corners.
Porformance gains from "performance" rotors are questionable in my mind, but you do want to have a set of nice straight rotors for best performane.
Also consider switching to a higher boiling point brake fluid, at least a DOT 4, but stay away from the silicone based stuff (DOT 5), its more trouble than its worth. ATE Super Blue Racing brake fluid is great stuff, and if have a hard time getting a hold of that, Ford Heavy Duty fluid also works pretty darn well.

i agree with you on the rotor part, the only worthwhile way to increase brake torque would be getting better calipers such as an nsx set or something of the like. now i need to know if there are stores where i could get performance pads like axxis ultimates or do i have to order them online.
