Default Swapped crx, hard to get in gears

Swapped a b-series in my crx and when i'm still, it's real hard to get in gear. I'd have to go to different gears just to get to 1st. Like it won't budge. When the motor is off, the gears shift smooth. Could it be my pressure plate and clutch going out?

I don't know but mine does it too. Sometimes it will go in 1st smooth as silk, other times the bitch doesn't want to budge so I go to 2nd then 1st. I have a brand new clutch and flywheel, so I would rule that out

No but when the car is running it never goes into 1st smooth. It has to be forced in.

Yeup i tightened it up also. Clutch engagement got higher but still don't get anto 1st good. One thing i noticed is i get like a chatter, once in a while. Like if i stay in reverse and reverse out then just push the clutch in and let it roll, it'll feel like the clutch is trying to grab.

your idle might be too high, it doesn't like to go into 1st when the idle was high on my car

if it doesn't go in while it's running, but it is fine when it's not, that means that the clutch is dragging, it's still turning the transmission a little, even though your foot is to the floor.

You guys take the whole motor out the car when installing the clutch or do you just drop the tranny mount then get the tranny from the bottom? Just want to hear how you ef/crx people with b-series do it.

I would look at the linkage also and the shifter bushings. I have had this problem in one of my cars and it was the bushings.

I've done it both ways. IMO it's easier to pull the engine and all. The time I pulled just the tranny was because I didn't have a cherrypicker handy. Either way works, your choice.

How can you fix clutch drag? i changed the clutch and lubed the shaft, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing. I think it is clutch drag cause when im moving a little bit and try to get in gear the car will stop. tightened the clutch cable too. It disengages pretty high. Brand new throwout, pilot, clutch, and pressure plate. And i used the clutch aligner. Torque pressure plate a little more than 19.

You might try a little lower disengagement point. Seems like the instructions that came with my Exedy specify that if you disengage too high, the rest of the stroke does nothing to disengage any further. Also, you don't want your throwout bearing continually touching the clutch fingers. FWIW, my GSR has no tranny issues and is difficult to get into first unless you are almost or completely stopped.

Do you have a short-throw shifter? cause ever since i put mine in you cannot really get into frist unless the car comes to a complete stop. Do you have the problem at a complete stop or only when you are slowing down?

Listen for the input shaft bearing in the tranny. You can always hear them just a little when the engine is idling and in neutral. When you push the clutch in, does the noise go away? No? then the clutch is not disengaging all the way. Have a friend push the clutch in and out for you, and listen for it. Other possibilites (assuming the clutch cable is set right): Sticking pilot bearing- this happened to me once- even though the clutch is pushed in, the bad pilot bearing is still trying to turn the tranny via the input shaft. Could also be warped clutch disk.

Did you use the correct lube for the tranny throwout bearing slide? Look in the OEM manual. You must use moly lube or your headed for trouble down the road.

Gave it a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, pilot, resurfaced flywheel, and still does it. I used the honda hi temp greese recommended by my friend whos a mech at honda. How can a bent shift linkage cause the clutch to engage. Also it happens when slowing down and at a stop. Like you know how on regular cars you can back up in reverese and when you're slowly going to a stop u can get into first? I can't do that with the crx. its wierd man. also i had a friend check it out and found out that im using the stock crx clutch cable so i'll be swapping that out with a integra cable when i get the car back from the impound . and no theres no short shifter. thanks for the replies but i still need more input. it's wierd becaue everyone i know thatt's experience that checked out the car said everything should be working good now.

well the only other possibility I can think of would be there is something wrong in the transmission. Was the tranny tore apart?
