How far does the Prelude thermostat open?
I tested mine, putting it in hot water. While it opened, I don't know if it opened far enough to be considered good. How far it must open? 1/8"?, 1/4"?, 1/2"?, 1"? A Honda Tech would know this.

dont go cheap and buy from autozone get the origional honda thermostat. they are made a whole lot better and the extra ten bucks or so it definately worth it. it will fit better seal better and work a lot better than aftermarket ones do. most of the time aftermarket ones will work just fine but i've ran into a few times where a new one iether wont open far enough or doesnt open soon enough and causes overheating. i installed the origional part and it kept the temp perfect. well when you cook a thermostat you need to slowly heat the water and record the temp that it started to open and when it was full open. it should start to open about 20 degrees less than what its rated for and be full open about 10 degrees over what its rated for. the farthest i've seen them open is about 3/4 inch.
Standard Thermostat
Lift height: above 10mm (0.39in)
Starts opening: 169 - 176 degrees F
Fully open: 194 degrees F
from Helms manual.
