Default '91 Accord tranny or sensor or TCM problem?

Another typical '90's transmission issue but here it goes: I have a 1991 Accord EX with an A/T. The typical speedo issue with a blinking green light and eventually check engine light occurred for a few days along with the usual speedo bouncing around. I installed a new VSS and disconnected the battery at the same time. Afterwards the car and speedo worked perfect for 2 days. Now the speedo is bouncing the other way...(60 to 90 mph when I am doing 45 and eventually to 0 and then the green "S" light flashes). I have no "check engine" light and when I pull codes I still only get the 4 "S" flashes. The transmission doesn't know what gear to shift into when the speedo is bouncing around. Did I get a bad VSS? or is it another issue since I have no check engine light? Thanks for any suggestions.
