Default The NEW B series shoot out

Well, recently the idea of a B series shoot out between some of the popular engine builders on the web was brought up. I want to take the idea and turn this into a real deal winner takes all event.

So far, the idea of a cookie cutter bore/stroke seems to be a good idea to build upon. Each engine builder involved would use the same block, same bore size, same stroke and same cylinder head to start with as a base. stock 3 pad rockers must retained and the use of a single TB OE configured intake manifold is required.

Id like to keep the MSRP total for each build to $8K and under.

Im going to try and get a few sponsors involved to supply some of the basic parts for each builder to use (blocks/heads). This will be open to all professional engine builders which will be accepted through an application process. The reason for the application and approval process is to keep sponsors contributions to a minumum. Companies dont want to give out 15+ of any product, but 3-6 they can live with.

There will also be an entry fee to cover testing and inspection costs. Im going to try and arrange a purse for the winner and or winners of each catagory as well. And possibly, a member raffle for one or all of the engines used in the competition... IF the parties involved in the competition agree to it. This will defintely make the winning purse for each catagory a bit more inticing

(Thinking a bit too far ahead )

Thats what were looking at to start with, any ideas or recomendations... please feel free to post up and contribute.

So far, the parties involved and confirmed are as follows:

Brad Z/RLZ (MAX_CFM)
Don Flores/DFE (DonF)

Still waiting for confirmation from Larry Widmer of ENDYN.

Sounds good. The list is impressive already. Also, don't forget to get my personal favorite honda builder, Omniman.

I linked him to this thread and talked to him briefly about it, didnt seem too interested in participating :shrugs:

I hadnt really thought to ask him to participate, didnt originally plan to. Omni is super super busy as is with the business and everything else hes involved in which is why I chose not to ask him.

He gave a few good ideas though

Have you hit up IB? Jeff might find the idea fun. Or he could dismiss it as a waste of his time

No thanks

Does anyone have any suggestions on what they would like to see? An all out no holds barred type of deal with the only real restrictions being bore size, stroke, rocker arms, cylinder head/block selection and 93 octane? (big big numbers)

Let me know what you guys would like to see???

if its simply a "Honda-Tech" B-series shootout, then Endyn won't be participating.

It wont be, Ill be doing all of this from start to finish with no other involvement from Honda-Tech other than threads and posts on this forum regarding. I kinda regret including Honda-Tech in the title but it is not a Honda-Tech only thing. Im going to request the title of the thread to be changed.

If Larry wants to make any suggestions or add in any way, or even confirm his participation have him send me an e-mail:

Its completely open at this point. Ive talked to Don and Brad because they are both 100% in, if Larry agrees to participate he will have his say as well. As will all participants.

edit: title changed

Why would the title of the shootout make a difference?

From the other thread you stated

I still have faith in ya Greg.

Well I think think IB would be a good one to ask. If they meet the criteria that has been set, then the more the merrier. Rick should also push Steve to do this. Rick it's not up to you to decide if one shop is too busy to participate. I doubt Don and Brad are just sitting around in their shops looking for work to do either.

However, if ample time is given (maybe 2-3 months) I think most can work one more engine in their schedules.

Builders are interested to see how their stuff compares to other builders. Then they know what they may need to improve on. The same goes for the header tests. That's why there is always a good response of fabricators and designers who want to get involved.

If someone doesn't want to be involved in a test it really comes down to 4 reasons.

1. Time (this can be made a non issue if more time is given)
2. Format (Already 2 builders have given an OK and the format isn't even finalized, so as long as all the builders get a say that should be a problem)
3. Cost (Well the engines could be sold for a set price after the competition so the builder will know how much of a "loss" they will be looking at and if the builder does well in the test then that "loss" will go away.
4. Expected Outcome (a builder may refuse because they really don't feel they got a good package to compete).

So bring them on.

Religion won't help ya Dave haha

Larry won't spend the time and effort and money just to make a point on Honda-Tech ... where people love to bash endyn, not that you'd know about that

would you dedicate resources, time and money to prove a point to people who have already made up their minds that SMSP headers are garbage ?

I wanted him to participate because I know his products would do very well against a lot of the competitors out there ... I was not asking him to do only for Honda-Tech, a site that he cannot even <edit> post his own opinion.

Greg this is not a Honda-Tech only thing, I had the thread title changed to make that clear. If it would make you guys feel even better Ill have the whole thing hosted and sposnored buy a non related company.

Will that be ok?

If thats ok, Ill work the details out today and let everyone know.

Then Larry shouldn't have spent any time on here, making posts trying to make the board believe otherwise. You seem to have the fact that I ask for concrete proof of results mixed up with bashing.

Well Greg, If Larry chooses to stay out of it for whatever reason (I really hope he chooses to participate) than you can take over and act as an endyn representative and run all the EDNYN parts/services you want in your build. Theres an open invitation for participation for Larry or for yourself.

Im going to make this a complete non biased 3rd party sposnsored and hosted ordeal. I dont really see any reasons or excuses for non participation at this point.

i know the members of all the popular web forums (including the BBS) would like to see Larry get involved... I know you would as well.
