Do you only need the 5 speed tranny?
Ive seen some 89-91 Civics non-Si listed with 5 speed trannys. Can you buy one of these and put it in a 89-91 base Civic that comes standard with the 4 speed tranny?

TIA

You are going to need new hubs and axels, And the vertical link. THose are different on the 4 speed models. outside of that it should bolt in, to the best of my knowledge.

There are several trannies you can use. These listed are all 88 - 91

1. HF - basically the same set up as the 4 speed STD with the addition of 5th gear.
2. DX - This is a 5 speed as well and is geared a little more aggressively than the HF
3. Si - 5 speed identical to the Dx with a more aggressive final drive.
4. DX Auto - not worth mentioning.

There are also some differences between the 88, 89 and 90 - 91. This has been discussed widely and can easily be found using the search function.

As far as the knucles and hubs, these will not have to be changed as long as you use STD or HF axles. The DX and Si axles have a larger outer spline and will not fit in the STD or HF hubs.

I hope this helps.
