Default Intake Manifold is Port Matched - Smooth or Rough Finish?

I sent off a Euro R Intake Manifold to have it portmatched to my CNC Head. It was done by the very reputable R&D Dyno in Gardena, CA.

When I received it back, it has like a swirling type finish. I asked Darren about it, and he just told me that it will work better with my CNC Ported Head like that. Since he was busy, I did not ask anything more.

My question is:

Should the runners of the Intake Manifold be smooth or swirling for All-Motor Application? If it should be swirling, what is the reason?

some head porters like smooth some like rough... some like rough because it mixes the air and fuel better .. some like smooth becuase they dont believe in that bullcrap... and want the air to go in as fast as possible.... all i can say is trust whoever is doing your head...

Think of a golf ball dimpled vs a smooth ball of the same size.

It won't hinder flow noticably, if at all.

I'm sure it won't affect the amount of flow.

But theory-wise, I'm thinking smooth flow vs. rocky/turbulent flow..... what do you guys think?

Nope. This has been talked about in other threads. Things like the concepts of Laminar Flow were brought up. Don't waste your time smoothing that **** out, its not going to help you at all.

On honda heads, i dont believe intake manifold runner difference between rough and smooth matters, the air and fuel doesnt mix until its in the intake port anyway, THATS where a rough surface finish promotes fuel/air mix.

Isnt the whole point of a rough surface to promote better atomization? If that is in fact its purpose, how would an area such as the surface area of the runners be affected by a texture used to promote better atomization?

IMO, intake manifolds and any surface behind the injector should be smoth.

I would bet money it wouldn't affect **** on the dyno or the track, and certainly isn't worth the time it would take.

Edit: spelling
