More testing of the RT-215s vs the RT-615s very interesting....
Well I did some testing today with the Philly guys. My 205/50x15" Azenis RT-215s were down to about 1-2mm tread depth front and back. My 205/50x15" Azenis RT-615s had 1 event and about 500 miles on them. Pretty new.
I also had my GTECH meter (older version) with me to see what lateral Gs I maybe pulling.
Temperature today was around 85-90 in the morning, and probably about 90-95 in the afternoon. I ran settings at 1/8 toe out front, 0 toe rear, -3 degrees camber front, and -2.5 rear. Full soft front, 1/2 turn on the shocks in the rear. I've found the Ripken lot is a bit slippy than alot of lots that I run on. I've tried full stiff rear and the car is uncontrollable.
So my 1st 5 runs on AZENIS RT-215s were: spin, 43.8, 43.6, 43.8, 43.6 (+1 cone). My lateral Gs on the GTECH meter was consistently 1.15. This was on 15x7" 41mm offset Enkei RPF1s. Pressures were 39f/36r
Changed my tires (RT-615s) for the afternoon to the 15x7" Kosei K1s with 45mm offset and 3mm spacers. My times were: 43.5 (40f/37r), 43.6 (39f/36r), 43.7 (30f/27r - did this according to the Falken website), 43.3 (41f/38r - watered down the tires), 43.3 (41f/38r - no water). GTECH meter said 1.19 lateral Gs for these runs except for the really low pressure run.
I was somewhat surprised by the runs in the afternoon. The tires were pretty hot that you couldn't keep your hand on the tire very long. So it looks like I found my tire

Er... So which tires were which? You gave a lot of detail and even tell us which wheels were on the car for each session. But you never told us which tires were on them for each session...

Considering that the lot condition changed because of heat and off line marbles your results are inconclusive. All your times are well with the margin of driver variability. You ain't no Daddio :-) (TradeMark) But, then agai, neither am I :-)

I think that's part of his point... NEW 615's are basically as fast as well worn and broken in 215's. I.E. the 615's should be faster than the 215's once they've worn down and have less tread squirm and build less heat.

I've been saying since I first drove the 615's that they will be a better tire (at least better than the 215) once a setup is found, but everyone has been running the Hankooks since the $$ is there.
The more I test with the 615s the more I find out things that I like.

Overall the 615s just felt better than the 215s AND I didn't have to worry about watering them down. With the 215s I went through 2 gallons of water on Sunday just to keep them cold. And who knows how long they stay cool when you go out there. Probably right after the start they are hot again.
Whereas the 615s were rubbing REAL bad on my fenders. Something I hope will take care of themselves as they wear down.

Exactly. Plus I thought having g-force numbers would be somewhat helpful too. The only run I didn't have consistent numbers was when I drop the pressures dramatically.
Every run on my comp runs were 1.15s. Every run (sans the low pressure run) were 1.19s.

So which tires were which? Or do we have to guess? You've even edited the original post since I asked the first time, and it still doesn't say.
I'm guessing the 215s were used in the morning and the 615s were used in the afternoon. (??)

So you competed on the 215 and then did the afternoon runs on the 615s?

I don't know if that helps you any. After all, we're both SE-R guys with the same name... maybe the Honduh guys have a secret code we're oblivous to...

I'm not... I don't want to raise the car an inch to accomodate them.
Let me know what you think though! If I'm wrong, I'll happily switch.

it must be a honda guy thing. somehow i knew that mike was running the 215's in the morning, the 615's in the afternoon. maybe because i read elsewhere he had the 215's on his enkei's?
nate - discovered .5 in 3/32's of rubber on mx's and will buy a set of tires shaved to 1/32 for nats

sometimes I don't know what I'm saying
I wish I had some room for the Hoosiers to see what Gs they were pulling.

since we're all being honest here. chang tested the 5/32' mx's and the 0/32 mx's and was faster on the tires with more tread. he was also faster then he was on the 215 azenis. at other events he was slower by .8 on the mx's then he was on the 215's.
i think it is coming down to PICK A TIRE AND DRIVE DAMMIT!!!
nate - isn't telling anyone what to do, just wishes their was someone that you could pay $100 to and they would tell you what tire is quickest for you, your car, your setup, and the course you were going to run that day

true true
I also have a set of 205/50x15" MXs sitting on my shed that came with my car. I was thinking of trying those out too since they LOVE heat. What pressures to start out with those?

That's how I've felt for awhile now and I've chosen the 615 for this season. There really isn't any good information IMO on any of the tires. Everyone is running different suspension. All the tire pressure opinions are all over the place, and nobody has been able to figure out if the falkens like to be hot or cold yet.

The only problem I can see is the extra gearing, but I may have them shaved to sorta help that. I don't know what will happen with my car when I buy them, I've completely run out of droop travel with my shortened Koni's and GC camber plates and I can't get the car any higher.

I need everything I can get to catch up with those EF's and hopefully the 225's will help. A little more seat time wouldn't hurt either...

Keep waiting. They're not being made. It was a mis-print and places like Vulcan and other posted it on their site. I got this direct from a Falken rep. - AB

I know everyone says the 225 was a missprint and 6 months ago O could understand it but the 205, and 225 (15's)are listed in the SCC add only. So I would have thought they would have caught that. And the 195 wasnt listed????
I am going to be bummed id the 195 gets scrapped. I want to try the JDM stagger 205f 195r

I'm loving my 615s, here's some feedback:
- The over-sprung rear of the crx feels less prone to "skitter" with the softer sidewalls.
- The 615s feel like they have a grippier compound, higher threshold than 215s
- Toe and sway bar adjustments help recover the slight loss of "crispness"
- The 615s wear more evenly (sholders dont immediately round off)
- No more greasy feeling when hot
- 615s seem happy with slightly higher pressures than the 215s, I use 40/35.
HanKooks, MXs, 615s, hoarded 215s...
