HELP, Gauges aren't moving! Are the 88 and 89 CRX Si Under Dash Wiring Harness the same?
I got my 88 CRX Si w/ nothing in it but seats, a gauge cluster and a steering wheel last November. Needless to say, there was no dash wiring either. After making it home with the car, I stuffed in my '89 CRX Dx's dash harness. Almost all the plugs hooked up (a/c, gauge cluster, radio, etc). All except the two that go to the fuse box. I ended running a single wire between the RPM pin off the dash harness and the the rpm hole on the 89's Dx Cluster to make it work. I really hate not knowing if my oil light is on or if the car is overheating and I don't know about it until it's too late. I don't know if the dash harness is different between the Si and Dx. Or if it's cause one was automatic and the other a 5-speed. Or it could have simply been because they're two different years. I honestly have no idea and don't know anyone I can refrence the information off of. Most people selling they're harness say it'll fit 88-91 Civics and CRXs. Obviously not so. Right now I'm looking for an 88 Si dash harness and the search ain't coming up to good. I just really hope that I am limiting myself by just asking around for an 88 harness and that I'll be able to use the first Si one that I can find. Also at the same time I don't want to buy some Si harness and have that one not fit either. They ain't cheap.
P.S. - I still have the 88 cluster laying around since I don't know what dash harness I'll end up using. Please help.

Well i'm positive the Engine harnesses are different, interior harness is too at a few points where it connects to the engine harness. But if both interior and engine harness match in year, that should be OK. Under dash it only really matters if it's a Hatchback vs CRX or Auto VS Manual. They are very different in that regard.
A quick look at the CRX Workshop manual will help you understand some of the wiring and how to trace the circuits.
( http://www.norcalcrx.org/library/ it's on the left. )
If you get both the interior and engine bay harness (same year) from an 88 or 89 Si, i think you can eliminate most of your problems.
If you read some of my other posts where i say "only use 89-91 or 88" that's because the 88 engine harness and the 89-91 don't match at the firewall plugs. same with Auto vs manual. But if you're using the chassis harness as well, these issues don't apply.
If you ghetto rig it by mixing and matching years and model types, the only thing that will help you is a book on electrical troubleshooting and a volt meter.

Thanks man
. I figured that it could only be for one of those reasons. The shitty part is that I didn't know which one. I've got a CRX manual but it doesn't go into all that much detail regarding dash wiring.
I'll probably see if I can grab the first 88-89 Si harness I can find whether it's on H-T or eBay. Thanks. I'll let you know how it works out.
