Buying a Catalytic converter question....
Hello,
I own a 1998 Honda Accord. I was having some check engine light issues, and I had my car thoughly checked out. The mechanic (who is a good guy) was telling me that my catalytic converter was running at about 40%, and that I would be needing to have it replaced. He said that it was a "bolt-on" type model and that it would be a simple job.
He also told me that I could find the part online for a resonable price. In parting, he told me to make sure and determine that I order the correct converter, and he then mumbled something about California emissions vs. Federal emissions. Here is the question: all the parts I've seen online, from all types of websites, seem to offer catalytic converters that DO NOT meet California emissions standards. They are all around the same price. Do I need a California emissions cat. converter?? I live in rural Missouri were we don't even have emissions tests!! What does this mean?? I did look under the hood of my car, and there was sticker that said something about the car met or was built to California emissions standards.
Thanks for any help that you can give an exhaust novice,
Joe

thats what i thought!! Don't worry about it!
BUT!
on the autozone website it states in the description of the catalytic converter for my car, that "This part must not be used in California emissions equipted vehicles". This makes me worry! My car is "California emissions equipted". Do I buy this part because I don't live in California, or if I do put this part on, will it mess things up??
