Default need advise

here is the deal.

i did a d16a6 swap into a kids 88 dx hatch. it was a motor that i had and
it only had 92k on it. he finaly pays me for it and on the first test
drive he brings it back and the cel is on and it says ta sensor. so i told
him bring it by tomarrow and let me look at it. i usualy wouldnt let him
take it but the kid demanded too drive it home and he only lives 2 blocks
away.he gets in it and does a burn out and bounces it of red line as he
leaves. that was last friday. yesterday he brings it by and says there is
a rod knocking and the plugs are coverd with peper. i rechecked the timing
and it was at the stock point where i left it. he has a makeshift intake
mad from his stock dx tube and k&n filter with the crank case breather
tube open too suck in unfiltered air into the intake. the oil was new and
there was no sighn of anything wrong when it left other than the cel. i
did a comp test and it was right at the top. i was amazed for a 90+k motor.

so what do you think i should do. should i fix the motor at my cost. or
should i let him take care of it due to his lack of care to bring the car
back to have me look at it. he drove 300 miles on it since he left my
house. i dont wont to be a *** hole but i could have prevented it if i
could have checked out the sensor. right?

what should i do?

This is a toss up, you can do either, but I wouldn't fix it. You warned him and advised him to leave it at the shop. Personally, always nice to have someone sign their name on some documents, great for back up. Just my .02

I wouldnt fix it. The kid should have came back the next day and not gone 300 miles. It is his fault so it is his responsibility to get it fixed.

If the kid was used to the DX motor, he probably ragged hte stuff out of htat motor for the last 300 miles. His lead foot. His problem.

if you told him to keep the car at your house after finding something faulty in his car and he insisted on taking the car against your will then does a hefty rev limit bouncing burnout knowing something was wrong and drove it 300 miles. tell the boy to fix his own chit. he's an idiot. and if he bitches at you for why you arent fixing it.. you tell em... your an idiot for driving like an idiot and
