Just swapped on a d16y8 intake mani onto my d16y7. My driving impressions.
Well, I just did the ever so popular d16y8 intake manifold swap onto my d16y7 and I got it right the first time. Started right up, no Check Engine lights, no coolant or vacuum leaks, just a shaky idle until the ECU learned the situation and made alterations. Car idles at a solid 700 rpm.
First of all I didnt have to spend a dime on extra coolant hoses or vacuum lines or an intake, I re-used everything that was available to me. Basically I re-used a lot of lines and items off the y8 mani and compensated.
Instead of splicing my wiring harness in order to get the #4 injector plug to its socket, I just cut the wiring loom and electrical tape on the harness, it reaches no problems (later I re-taped and loomed everything back up.)
Secondly instead of JB welding the back of the manifold too prevent vacuum leaks where the 2 wire IAVC used to sit, I just kept the y8 IAVC on and connected a vacuum line together to each of the nipples connected to the y8 IAVC, mind you I used my y7 IAVC, I just kept the y8 IAVC on there to prevent leaks. Too many people make a big deal out of covering up those holes, just leave the y8 IAVC on and run 1 vacuum line from one nipple to the other, problem solved.
Thirdly I just ghetto rigged my stock y7 airbox to make a homemade short ram air intake. I cut the tubing in half, punched a little hole in it to plug in the Intake air temp sensor, found a little K&N intake off a motorcycle, and utilized the clamps and rubber connectors off the y7 to connect the tubing to the throttle body and WOOLAA, Im good to go.
MY OVERALL DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: I definately feel a bit more pep especially in 2nd and 4th gear. Down low rpm ranges have dramtically increased in power and I can actually climb up a hill in 4th and 5th gear without having to downshift. Going by the butt-O-meter Id say in the ball park of an extra 7-10 whp. I am very pleased with this mod as gas mileage can only increase as its not suffocating for air near as much as the backwerd *** y7 manifold and the added pep alone is well worth the effort.

I did that IM swap on my 92 dX. Great mod I must say.

That's what I got out of it too

Just wondering for the person who posted. Why did you plug up the two nipples off the IACV with a vacuum hose? those are just coolant lines i don't think it makes a difference, unless im wrong?
FYI: I also did this swap also on my Z6
, but mine has been bored out to 60mm with a 60mm TB

the two nipples on the bottom of the EACV just go into one connected chamber that coolant flows through. you dont have to hook them to anything as they're not "hooked" to anything inside the EACV itself. coolant flows in one nipple, through a small chamber, and out the other nipple. the coolant heats the EACV by heating the casting its made out of.
lesson learned? you dont have to do anything with those nipples, you can leave them open.
