Difficulty shifting out of park on '92 Accord
Having difficulty shifting out of park on my Honda Accord '92, 120,000 miles. Transmission fluid flushed at 117,000 miles. No indication of leaking. Any ideas of what the problem is?
Is it difficult or are you having to use the release on the shifter? If you are having to use the release check to see if your brake lights are working. If they aren't working then it's most likely the brake switch.
If the brake lights work listen for a clicking sound comming from the center console by the shift lever. barely push the pedal down a few times and you should hear the solinoid activate as the pedal is pushed and again when released. If not check for power at wires comming from brake switch to solinoid when pedal is pushed. you can also test the solinoid with a jumper wire from battery. hope this helps.
is it stiff coming out or not coming out at all.if it is stiff, the shift cable will be your problem, they start to rust up on the trans end making it hard to come out of park.
