Default keyless entry + car audio q's.

hello HT,

i have a 96 civic ex with keyless entry and cd (by the cup holders)...

i understand if i wanted to get an aftermarket headunit, id have to buy a special wiring harness and a dash kit.

could i just take out the cd player on the bottom? and hide the stock headunit somewhere in the center console (which ive read that has been done before)? would there be a nasty gap where the stock cd player was?

and on an ending note, i couldnt find any guides for a 96 ex w/ keyless and cd player... so im kinda clueless on how i would take everything apart.

thanks

Go to http://www.installdr.com find your car, and you will have the info you need on removal, as for the CD, go to Honda or the bone yard and get the pocket that goes there. The door locks are a bit of a problem, but as you have already found out you can get a "T" harness that lets you leave the OEM radio in the car, [behind consol] and install the aftermarket Hu in the stock radio location, or leave the OEM radio in the stock location and mount the aftermarket HU down where the CD player was, [a little more work, for the front trim, but you should be able to mount the HU the same way the CD was mounted, ISO, [screws in the side] maybe a little filing] or, just get rid of all the OEM stuff, [radio and CD player] get the regular adpt. harness, and install an alarm and hook up the door locks to it or a key less entry module, [some for under $50] you could even get a cheap alarm and only wire what you need for the door locks to work. The only part of the OEM key less entry that is in the radio in the RF section. 94

hold on...

if im understanding this correctly, i can just get a headunit and not deal with any wiring harness / din plate baloney if i just install in the current CD changer position?

can anybody verify?

will both headunits still have function?

i think i will opt for this option because it seems to be much cheaper. however, there are no directions for this >.<

You will still need the "T" harness, the stock HU will no longer work, [no sound, it's not hooked up to the speakers anymore.
When you pull the OEM CD out, you will see how to install the aftermarket HU, some mods will have to be done, they will be obvious 94

crutchfield has a instructions for the specific car you are installing in... it tells you how to take apart the dash, etc...

i am pretty mechanically inclined, so i dont know if it s necessary or not.

It's no big deal to get the CD out, pull the console, and no you don't need the "din slot thing, [mounting sleave] with some modifying you will use the same system to mount the aftermarket HU as is used to mount the OEM CD changer, [ISO] machine screws into both sides of the unit. 94
