Default Turbo an ITR

Recently purchased a Greddy bolt on turbo kit for my ITR motor. Will this kit be safe and reliable enough for a pretty much stock daily driver? IF not, what other mods should i do?

search a little bit. You are going to get mixed opinions as to whether or not it is a safe mod.

This might be a better place to ask that question, in general.

Ummm ... This one will be coming back even stronger, end of this year or beginning of the next.

get good fuel managment like hondata/neptune and get it tuned, .. if you're keeping a/c use heatwrap. make sure to use the right spark plugs and change them every oil change, keep up regular maintnance. run oil like Xw40 or higher like Xw50 during summer, oh.. and have money for rebuild and/or beater.

As for that... Not my cup of tea, I was recently in a S/C R and it made me giggle like a little school girl. It was sooo smooth and linear I could not believe. But if you want it to be a DD, I'd would not go with turbo, It's just too tempting to boost more and more.

For nice power that prolly in the same price range as a Turbo kit, Try a K20.

Smart advice.

Careful of boost creep on that kit.

It's fine for a daily driver, if you tune it properly. It seems like the rule of thumb is that anything less than 300 WHP is fine on the stock motor. You will break **** if you track it, mine lasted either 2 or 4 weekends depending on how you count. Comrpession in #3 started to suffer after two track weekends, was completely gone after 4.

-Chris, who started with that kit last year, welded on an external wastegate, cracked his ringlands, killed the turbo, replaced the turbo with a GT2871, cracked the exhaust manifold near the wastegate, is replacing the manifold with a Mini-me along with the turbo housing and a shiny new 3" downpipe... who swallowed a spider to catch a fly...

Thanks for all the comments so far guys.. I have done some searching and have found that alot of people are putting lower compression pistons and aftermarket rods. Is that necessary, even though the greddy kit only puts out 7 psi. Is it worth the extra money for reliability and/or power?

you'll need a rebuil at some point.. so i'd get as much of stock motor as you can.. everything is a wear item including aftermarket internals, so get what you can out of stock and rebuild with forged pistons/rods..

Have decided to just rebuild it now because the car is burning oil at the moment..(either bad rings or vavle seals) . I am going with Arias forged pistons and Eagle H beam forged rods. What compression is optimal for my setup?

9.0:1 is the best compression ratio for a street/strip setup .

Good luck with your build up
I am building mine also , hopefully next month it will be boosted

Around 9:1 will be safe, you can go higher, like 10:1 but then having it tuned perfectly will be important to keep **** from breaking.

IF your going to just be running around 7psi right now stock motor should be fine as long as you use good ems and get the car tuned.

9:1 is popular. You'll notice the power loss and turbo lag, but its safe and can support a lot of power on the stock block (I've heard of things as insane as 500 WHP on race gas, 400 seems more reasonable).

I would blow up your current motor first. It'll probably last a couple/few years if you're only driving on the street/strip and have it tuned well. Just keep adding oil, and add a catchcan for your PCV (Moroso one is simple enough).
