Default Kart Racing or Road Racing?

I'm trying to decide which is the better option: to start racing shifter karts or to start road racing with a full on race car. Obviously one of the things that I am thinking about is cost, and the other is the amount of experience I would gain from either type of racing. Eventually I want to make it to a professional level of racing, and I'm wondering what the best option is.

I've done one HPDE and a little bit of autocrossing, and my only karting experience is at dromo1, which I go to often (I am enrolling in a shifter kart school soon). What do you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

I guess it would depend on the kind of opportunities you have in your area, and how much money you have to spend. Also, if you want to make it to the "professional level of racing," now would be a good time to think about what type of professional racing you want to do. Get in on the ground floor, if you can afford it.

im planning on attending a shifter kart school soon "manveer"......it seems taht the prices are much cheaper for groups, ie if 12 people go together it will drop the price from $375 to $200 dollars a person. if anyone is interested in grouping for kart school, please post.

Enduro (road racing) karting with 'laydowns' on a full size sports car track. Much cheaper than cars, just as fast, safer, and more thrilling. Check out your local tracks and kart clubs. I'm not sure if racing 'sprint' type karts (clutch or shifter) on a short course equates well to sports car racing. Raced clutch type enduro karts for 4 years, went to a HPDE with my Type R, even then the techniques were quite different. Will start racing laydown shifters this year. Shifters may be closer.
