A friend of mine wants to get performance shocks for his car. I suggested springs as well, but he doesn't really want to lower the car, plus his options are limited. BTW, this is for a '96 Corolla. I still think he should get some type of springs though. Is this detrimental to the car or is it okay to just go with perf shocks? He wants better handling but like I said, he doesn't have a lot of options in springs other than ones that drop the car about 1.5 to 2 inches, which he doesn't want. He'd possibly go for an inch or less drop, but that's it.
Any opinions on this? Thank in advance for the help.

Performance dampers will be fine alone, and will improve handling. But every Toyota I have driven would really need stiffer springs for me to be happy with it.
It won't hurt, depending on the type of driving he does, soft spings and strong dampers may actually be better than stiff springs. Some driving conditions need Stiff springs some needs soft. Firm dampers will always help spirited driving.

Cool! Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll tell him to try out just the shocks first. I don't think he drives his car as spiritedly as many of us on the board do or have.
Thanks again!
