S2000 vs GTi R32
price wise the R32 is cheaper, it can hold more people, has alot more torque at lower revs (3.2l engine), and is all wheel drive.... despite all this, S2000 looks so much nicer.
i had a VR6 for 2 years, i was very pleased with its reliability.
what do u guys think? have anyone of u test drove an R32?

My friend has a 2003 R32...
- Its sluggish.
- About as quick as an RSX Type-S i guess you could say.
- Handles ok but obviously could use suspension tweeks.
- Feels like a cheap VW on the interior (like most VW's), plastic EVERYTHING.
- Shifter throws are about a mile long.
...this car isnt even close to a comparison to the S2000, its just a GTi with the Audi TT platform controlling it...and some special edition racing buckets. Nothing more.
The S2000 is a sports car...can easily outrun this car without breaking a sweat in every racing outlet you could think of, AND, its a convertible. lol

Really?? even though it has a 3.2 and the s2000 has a 2.2? there is no way (basing by the stats) that it could beat the r32 from 0-60. u can't go wrong with AWD either.
I wasn't too bothered by the plastic everything, but then again i know what u mean.
as u said in the past, i really just have to test drive both and see how it feels.

It's gonna be a tad faster than the RSX-S, but not as fast as the s2k.
I say, if you can afford an s2k, you get an s2k. Unless you'll be using the big hatch for stuff all the time. Also, if you can afford a new s2k, then you can afford a used z06.....

I swapped cars with a buddy who has a r32 for a 15 minute drive. It couldn't keep up, even after a rolling start my s2 just walked away from the r32.
Sure the r32 sounds nice, but so can the s2 with the right exhaust. In every respect the s2 was hands down the best, even my buddy admitted it. I think he is a closet vtec junkie now.

raced an R32 in long island, they put their best driver to drive the r32 vs my s2k ... I literally drove circles aroudn him on the meadowbrook pkwy. They were not happy cause they were just calling my s2000 a ricey car and they got smoked by a ricer (me) ...

First of all...I'm going to back up the VW interiors on this one. Any MK4 interior beats the **** out of any honda interior by far. Go sit in any new civic or accord and feel the "plastic." Every damn interior of a $50K and below car will have some kind of plastic in it.
Second of all...you can cannot compare a roadster to a hatchback. 2 completely different vehicles. One is a RWD convertible and the other is a AWD hatchback.
Speed wise stock VS. stock the S2000 will win (if your into bragging rights)
Handling wise...any car can be tweaked to handle better (even the S2000)
Price wise...you can pick up a low miled "S" for around 18k-22K
New R32's are in range from $27-$31K.
My .02 cents...pick up an EVO... AWD+BOOST+HID+13 sec car=hapiness

We arnt comparing the interior of the R32 to a new civic or Accord, its being compared to the S2000, and the S2000 (while cramped) is outfitted with a rather nice, high quality and sport interior...with very little obvious plastic. There is no question that every car under $50,000 will have some kind of plastic, nobody was arguing that.

Direct that at the thread starter, not me...i was just giving him what he asked for, and that was facts of the S2000 vs. the R32. Period.

thanks for the input guys, much appriciated!!
its still hard to belive that a 2.2l engine can literally outbeat a larger 3.2l engine, on pretty much all scales (i know the s2k is lighter, but still, wow a whole second faster in 0-60?)
VW interiors might be 'plastic' but every car uses plastic, it's the KIND of plastic that is used, lasts long, look alright, and feels much more than it is which is JUST PLASTIC
someone said i can find an 's' for 18-22 grand. in your dreams! try 26-32 grand! (04 models only), whereas the R32 is selling from 23-26 grand.
at the end of the day, its reliability (which both have a rep of holding themselves together), safety (which i know for SURE VW has, with all the airbags, the onboard computers, ABS - which s2k has as well), and drivability (which both have been advertised to be 'pocket rockets', and both got above 90% from most people who own them on msn.autos.com ,
as i said, TEST DRIVES are going to be happening
I'm looking forward to that!!
cheers again

I drove my S2000 into a VW dealer to test drive the R32. The R32 was very nice, but it wasn't nearly as quick, didn't handle as well, and had a really sloppy shifter. The salesman kept talking about how fast it is and how well it handles... I had to let him in on a little secret- the R32 is a great car, but the S2000's better. If I needed a nice winter car, I would definitely pick the R32. While it's not a S2000, it's still a fantastic car. The R32 was quieter, had a nice back seat, looked great, and sounded great.

We should rename this thread "S2000 Vs. German Tank." I've driven both and would much rather drive the S. She's lighter on her feet, more fun in the corners, and she's topless.

My bud has an r32 and when he got into my rsx he thought i had ashort shifter. i guess the throws are a mile long and not as smooth as a honda gearbox. the r32 feels and drives like it weighs a ton more (3409 lbs) and teh s2k is very nimble at 2835. Test drive em get what you like
It is hard to believe that an engine a full liter smaller would be quicker, but the S2K is lighter. For a long time the S2K held the record for hp/liter... and the S2K was bred for the track! If you're going for performance, definitely go for the S2K. Honda has proven time and again it's performance and reliability!
And in my opinion, the S2K just looks better!

If this makes any difference, I was lapping an R32 GTi at Summit Point at a Seat Time event a few Fridays ago.
