Default what causes main bearing from going metal to metal

18 psi 60-1 for 6000 mile tuned and my main bearing are squashed, any help. timing at 18 psi was 15 degrees, is this just bad luck, because the last time I had a broken cam shaft.

How is your oil pressure?

um lets see... oil starvation, metal filings in oil from breakin or any junk in oil that gets in the bearings, over reving, inbalance of rotating assembly, bearing clearance out of spec...

is this a built motor?

built motor and block. had oil pressure but was low, so I pulled it apart,, pulled the main 3 cap and found a squashed bearing. balanced. built head. I do have bad luck, I have broken 2 oil pumps, broken crower cam shafts and melted some pistons.
the car is a 1988 carbon fiber crx with a full race stage 2 with 720cc injectors, ls trans, and hondata. I have taken the car to over 170 mph racing r1 and gsxr 1000. winning most of the times. I don't do quarter mile but I do track days at limerock in ct.
I believe it is cylinder pressure is the cause, have not seen the top rod bearing but the bottom was good.Exhaust temp gauge was only at 1400 degrees. Maybe less timing or more timing. just trying to figure this all out.

Depending on the power, and seeing as how the car is supposedly really light, the gearing in the LS tranny would easily hit that if hes revving high. As far as the car... eh thats pretty sketchy in a crx.

Its not cylinder pressures. If it was that the rod bearings would have taken the pounding, not the mains. You have other issues there. And FWIW, there is no back luck with building motors. You either do it right and they work or do it half-assed and they don't work.

yea I'm revving to 8000 right now and I hit 138mph in 4th gear.....once the motor gets back in the car I'll be revving to 8500 so maybe that'll be like 145mph in 4th gear.

detonation can also cause bearing wear. You mentioned that you burned through a piston which detonation can also do. Sounds to me like you should recheck your tune.

Riiiiiiiight. So you must have the only CRX in existence that can run 9's at 18 psi.

took the motor apart, pistons good, connecting rod bearings good, only the 3 and 4 main bearing beat. The first and fifth are good.
As far as beating bikes in a 1800lbs crx with driver revving to 9000 rpm I get to 170 easy. If the car is 1800 and my full race kit stage 2 with a 60-1 makes over 400whp + the power to weight is less than that of a bike that weighs 450 +rider. I been trying to get the car to go fast long distance for a long period of time, maybe thats the problem.
maybe you cant turbo charge a honda and run a mile at wide open throttle, maybe the heat or something. I have blown stock oil pumps beating bikes on the highway.
Getting a crx in the tens is easy you only need 350 whp, its not a civic or an integra, its a crx.

I forgot to mention, I topped out at 159 at 8100 rpm need the extra 900 to give more mph. The car revs to 10000 rpm. Like I said fully built.
I have also beaten 350 whp integra by hundreds of feet.
I did not post to brag about the car, but to find a solution. either its just bad luck that the center main went, but the car has 6k on it driving it every day. I just dont want this to happen again, every time it is something different.

Detonation is ailing you. Not entirely severe, but it is most likey there from time to time. Conservate tune

He lost me at the "beating R1's at 170" part.

I don't care what your power to weight is, or how much power you have, or how much the CRX weighs. FWD cars just have too many problems with traction to beat those bikes.

Stock R1's run high 9's. Modded R1's that are still NA can go high 8's. So unless the drivers of those bikes really sucked, you wouldn't have beat them.

And I hope you don't mean 170 in the quarter mile, because that's just rediculous. If you are referring to a roll-on race, then there's even less chance of beating a bike because that's where they really take off.

from a dig i can see the bikes beating him, but from a roll it should be pretty close. i don't know about the 170mph though.

Why? If a bike starts from a roll, it can annihilate anything. The thing is, while Hondas have problems getting traction, the first gear on a bike is pretty much useless.

I personally hate launching on my Ninja. If someone tries to race me at a light, I don't even bother. You basically have to get the throttle perfect - too much gas and you wheelie over, and not enough and your front tire touches back down and you bog. But once I'm rolling, it's awesome - shifting at redline through the rest of the gears only drops the RPMs about 500 per shift, so you can just sit there at the peak of the powerband.

talked to the machine shop today, 4-5 quarts of oil is not enough run through the head and turbo and get drained and then picked up. There was no detonation at all.
For your info I have a 2001 996s ducati that makes 130rwhp and my car will eat it up. I am racing all my freinds who have these machines. I jumped 5 car on a 2001 750 built to an 813cc making 145 rwhp but the torque is low. Bikes dont have a lot of torque. The torque cant push them threw the air at high speed
They are roll ons I told I dont quarter mile, anybody can drive straight. I start in 3rd spool the 60-1 tach out 3 at 8500, shift 4 tach out, shift to 5.
An r1 make about 130 to the wheels. As long as your past your rpm limit and torque limit the wheels dont spin, just like a bike you cant start a wheelie at 10000rpm your past your torque power curve.
Well I need a new crank.

The problem with cars is in fourth and fifth the trans sucks up all the power, but in a light weight car and high horsepower 4- 5 pull easy. just like a bike 1-2-3 pull hard 4-5-6 pull less
