Adjusting valves LS-Vtec built HELP PLZ (already searched)
ok i just finished puttin my motor together with ctr cams and itr valve train..now its time to adjust my valves but i keep running into problems..there is no timing belt on the motor yet..so i havnt exactly done TDC yet.. every time i adjust cyl # 3 one side will work fine and the other side wont..no matter which way i turn the screw..is there something im not doin right???
if theres no timing belt on the motor, rotate the crank so the pistons are all about half way down each cylinder (quarter turn on crank from TDC)so no valves come into contact with the pistons., and rotate cams the normal procedure-or just wait till you put a belt on. are you using the special tool for adjusting b-series vtec heads?
the only tools im using is the feeler gauge and a 10mm wrench and a screwdriver..is there somthing im missing?
And also wat do u mean by rotate the cams at normal procedure?

if you dont have the tool.. get a 10 deep socket from autozone or whatever parts store and a 5/16 wrench and hammer it in the circle side and that will work fine.

Nah im saying if you don have the tool.. Make your own.. by getting a deep socket ten and hammer that onto the circle side of a 5/16 wrench . And then just slide a screwdriver in it and your ready to go.. Obviously you werent ever poor and needed to do things ghetto before

you need the special tool because you need to hold the screwdriver part in the same spot as you tighten the nut-or else the screwdriver part will usually slip when you tighten the nut-throwing off the adjustment you had it set at. the special tool is a socket with a screwdriver in the middle so you can tighten correctly. when i didnt have the special tool, i used a deep 10mm socket, and clamped some visegrips on it at an angle, and then used the screwdriver in the middle.

ok so if i have the pistons all half way...wat position do i put the cam gears in...the up arrow pointing up???

I say you put that timing belt on first .. so you dont have this problem.. But when it is on
Put the cam gear so it shows the up arrow on top and the two markings in the middle line up adjust cyl #1 , then turn counterclockwise until the arrows are pointing sideways.. then adjust 3 cyl, then turn it again till middle marks mark up again then do cyl4 , then turn again and do cyl2.. But if your trying to do it without the timing belt.. then remove spark plugs and use a long screwdriver.. while cranking it to TDC look at the screwdriver move up.. when it hits a "Flat Spot" then do the valves.. (make sure to turn the cam gear like i said above . Thats the only way i can think of doing it without the timing belt on.
Dont know if thats exactly what you were lookin for ?

yes, set the cams so the "up" arrow is pointing up, and go a quarter turn counterclockwise (on the cams) for every cylinder you adjust. order is 1-3-4-2.

ya thats wat i was told to do to..but when i tryed it i kept failing...lol so i asked a mechanic friend of mine whos way older then i am...and he told me the correct wat to do is after u put the timing belt on and find TDC...so i did and it worked...but thanks ne ways
